Eastvale – Last month, the Western Bridge Span officially opened on the new Mayor Berwin Hanna Bridge on Hamner Avenue. Traffic has now shifted to the new section and demolition of the old bridge is in progress.

The new speed limit is 35 MPH in the construction zone, and it is advised to watch for uneven pavement as you drive cautiously through the area. “No pedestrian access is granted over the bridge during the phase of construction due to safety and limited access,” according to the Hamner Avenue Bridge and Widening Project facebook. “Pedestrians may use RTA bus route 3 for access with stops at Taft St., and Hamner Ave. (northbound), and on Citrus St. west of Hamner Ave. (southbound).”

In 2021, the City of Norco and the Riverside County Transportation Department began construction for this $71-million-dollar project. After demolition of the old bridge, the next steps are to construct the Eastern Bridge Span then construct a multi-use trail. “Once complete, the Berwin Hanna Bridge on Hamner Avenue over the Santa Ana River will be 1,200 feet long and 12-foot-wide travel lanes,” stated the City in a news release. The Hamner Avenue Bridge and Widening Project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
