Jurupa Valley – In the last month, there were several incidents in the neighboring city of Jurupa Valley. This information is courtesy of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Incident: Deputy-Involved Shooting

Date: June 8

Location: Jurupa Valley

Details: On Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:12 a.m., deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to 53rd Street and Cedar Street, Jurupa Valley, to check the welfare of a male subject who appeared to be bleeding and disoriented. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the male and began to provide medical aid. While the deputy was tending to the male’s medical needs, he produced a knife and began to stab himself. The male charged toward the deputy with the knife, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was struck by gunfire, and deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. The suspect was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details will be released at this time. No additional injuries were reported as a result of this incident. The suspect’s identity will not be released at this time.

The deputy involved will be placed on paid administrative leave according to department policy. The name of the involved deputy will not be released. Investigators from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office assigned to the Riverside Sheriff’s Force Investigations Detail will lead this investigation. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Incident: Fatal Hit & Run Traffic Collision

Date: May 30

Location: Jurupa Valley

Details: On Thursday, May 30, 2024, about 3:40 a.m., deputies assigned to the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the area of Limonite Avenue and Pacific Avenue, Jurupa Valley, regarding a major-injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle. When deputies arrived they located the motorcycle rider lying in the roadway with significant injuries. Deputies rendered medical aid to the motorcycle rider until the arrival of CAL Fire. The motorcycle rider was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to the injuries sustained during the collision.

The Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The cause of the collision is still under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision. The identity of the motorcycle rider will not be released at this time, pending notification to the next of kin.

Evidence and witnesses at the scene indicated another vehicle was involved in the collision and the vehicle fled the scene. The ensuing investigation led to the identification of the other vehicle and it was later located at a residence in Jurupa Valley. The driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision was identified and the vehicle was impounded. The investigation into the collision continues and no further information will be released at this time.

The collision investigation required the temporary closure of Limonite Avenue, between Pacific Avenue and Riverview Drive in order to process the scene and collect evidence.
