Ontario Man Arrested For Robbery

On December 21, 2016, at approximately 1:00 pm, deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at 8880 Archibald Avenue. Preliminary information obtained at the scene indicated the suspect left on foot and was in possession of a handgun. For an abundance of caution, Rancho Middle School, Cucamonga Elementary, and Bear Gulch Elementary were placed on school lockdowns until deputies rendered the surrounding area safe.

Through evidence gathered at the scene, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Cristopher Seagraves. On December 22, 2016, at approximately 1:00 pm, detectives contacted Seagraves at his residence in Ontario. Seagraves was taken into custody without incident. Detectives obtained a search warrant for Seagraves’ residence and located evidence connecting him to the armed robbery.

Seagraves was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for armed robbery, and his bail was set at $100,000. Chino residents arrested for Identity Theft

Chino- On December 7, two City of Chino residents were arrested after the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department compiled a comprehensive investigation that which produced several search warrants, identified countless victims of identity theft, cleared several vehicle burglaries that occurred in Rancho Cucamonga.

 

The two suspects were identified as William Hernandez, 41-years-old, and Stephanie Romesuspect2ro, 33-years-old who were both residents of Chino.

 

Deputy Torres of the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department began her investigation after reports of several vehicle burglaries were happening in the parking lots of the Rancho Cucamonga 24 Hour Fitness.  The team of deputies and Deputy Torres were assigned to the Victoria Gardens Retail Theft Team where they found Hernandez and Romero as possible suspects.

 

Detective Bureau and Deputy Torres together coordinated a takedown operation that led to the arrest of both Chino residents. The arrest led to a continued investigation with the help of other detectives and deputes, additional warrants were placed in the City of Chino and Santa Fe Springs.

 

According to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, “The search warrants exposed a comprehensive identity theft operation that Hernandez and Romero spearheaded. Thousands of dollars of fraudulently purchased property was located, along with hundreds of stolen access cards, stolen identification cards, personal documents and mail containing the information of hundreds of victims.”

 

Deputy Torres is working on locating every identity theft victim so their personal property may be returned, so she may obtain interviews and file additional charges to solidify her case with the District Attorney’s Office.

Man Arrested For Attempted Murder

Rancho Cucamonga- On September 13, the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department responded to an incident in the 10900 block of Terra Vista Parkway in Rancho Cucamonga. As the deputies approached the residence, they heard several gunshots coming from inside of the home.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, “Deputies believed the series of gunfire involved a domestic violence active shooter. Rancho Cucamonga deputies have extensive training on responding to these types of situations and quickly coordinated a tactical plan and approached the residence.”

The suspect was identified as 36 year-old Marcus Chavez. The deputies made their approach, they located Chavez who was no longer armed and was taken into custody without further incident. As deputies did further investigation in the residence, they were able to located a mini-14 rifle with a high capacity magazine along with numerous fired cartridge casings. The SBCSD also states, “Several bullet holes were located throughout the residence. It appears Chavez was also firing at the first responding deputies. No one was injured during this situation.”

Deputies also learned in their investigation that Chavez’s wife and children had been inside the residence when he started to load his firearm. The wife and kids were able to leave the residence before actual shots had been fired. Chavez was booked into the West Valley Detention Center, a bail set at $1,000,000 for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, and felon in possession of a firearm.

Hit and Run kills Bicyclist

Rancho Cucamonga- On August 19, Detectives of the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station attempted to serve a warrant for a domestic case that involved a man named Eric Tafoya.

The detectives believed Tafoya would visit a relative’s home at the 11000 block of Benton Ct in Loma Linda. Once they arrived, they observed Tafoya leave the residence and leave in his vehicle. Detectives initiated a traffic stop, where he failed to yield to authority.

According to SBSD, “Tafoya was traveling westbound on Barton Rd. when he collided with a bicyclist, and then continued driving. He then crashed into a van and bailed out of the vehicle and fled. After some time, the detectives found the suspect in the remote area hiding inside of a shed. Tafoya had been taken into custody without any further incidents.

However, the victim/bicyclist was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. The SBSD also states, “At approximately 12:18 p.m. the victim died from the injuries sustained in the collision.”

The investigation was conducted by the Region I Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).

The suspect, Eric Tafoya, was booked for Murder and the active warrant at West Valley Detention Center.
