Joy Stealers

Tim Eaton

By Pastor Tim Eaton

Joy.  Its as much a part of Christmas as trees, gifts, mangers, and mall Santas.  We see signs that say it, and hear songs that sing about it.  But do we have it? The tragedy of Christmas is that we often find a million reasons not to have joy at this “The most wonderful time of the year.” Spending too much on gifts, the pressure to have the house, the clothes, or the family just right; juggling family time with other commitments; or extended family drama can drain the joy right out of Christmas.  For still others the joy of Christmas has been stolen more naturally by the onset of physical ailments or the loss of loved ones.

For a season of joy there sure seems to be a lack of it!  But that’s exactly why God sent his son into the world.  He sent him to be a gift to overshadow and overpower even the worst of joy stealers.  His gift of Jesus was announced with these words: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” (Luke 2:10)  Indeed, he is greater than whatever troubles you have! This Christmas clear away the stress and the clutter and remember the one who is the reason for the season is greater than the stressors of the season.  When your Christmas isn’t perfect remember that HE IS the perfect gift for you.

Some people love wrapping gifts – other can’t stand it!  To restore your holiday JOY, Edgewater will be offering totally free (no donation) gift wrapping in front of Kohl’s in Eastvale on Sunday, December 16th from 2 to 5 pm.  We are gathering a team that love wrapping just in case you don’t.

Put the JOY back in your Christmas: Christmas Music Celebration 12/23 5pm Christmas Eve 12/24 5pm. Pastor Tim Eaton, Edgewater Lutheran Church Sundays at 10am, Harada Elementary, 12884 Oakdale Street, Eastvale, CA  92880, http://www.EdgewaterLutheran.org

OC Christmas Burglar Shot

Staff Reports

Fullerton– A man has been charged for burglarizing a home on Christmas and fleeing the scene after being shot by the homeowner.

Jeremy William Bell, 29, of Fullerton, has been charged with one felony count each of First Degree Residential Burglary, Aggravated Assault, Attempted First Degree Residential Burglary, with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon, and a prior prison conviction in 2012 in Riverside County for a felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of nine years and four months in state prison.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2014, Bell is accused of attempting to break into an Anaheim home. He is accused of removing the sliding screen door of a room at the residence, but was unable to get inside. The family inside the home noticed an unknown man wearing a ski mask and contacted 911. The defendant is accused of fleeing the scene. Anaheim Police Department (APD) officers arrived at the residence, but were unable to locate the defendant.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 25, 2014, Bell is accused of breaking into an Anaheim home in a different neighborhood by gaining access inside the home’s closed garage. The homeowner heard noises coming from the garage and went to investigate. The defendant is accused of striking the homeowner in the face with a metal wrench as the victim opened the garage door. The homeowner ran back inside the home and retrieved a shotgun. The defendant is accused of fleeing the scene and stealing items from the residence after seeing the homeowner armed with a shotgun.

The homeowner fired one round of birdshot which struck the defendant in the back. APD arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect after finding him hiding outside a nearby garage at a different residence.

Bell is being held on $500,000 bail and was scheduled for pre-trial on Wed., Jan. 7, at the North Justice Center in Fullerton.

By Pastor Tim Eaton

Christmas is all about the greatest miracle in history. It’s about something distinctly better than the big guy in the red suit making an appearance on Christmas Eve.The birth of Jesus is one of God’s great miracles. And there were many more miracles leading up to Jesus’ birth, with many more to come in His life. One of the joys of Christmas is the joy of giving; but sometimes the logistics of it all can overshadow the joy. Edgewater would like to help. We will be offering FREE (that’s NO donation) gift-wrapping in front of Kohl’s in the Eastvale Gateway Shopping Center, on Sat., Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop by with your purchases and let us put a little more joy into the joy of giving.

This year, Edgewater will be hosting three Christmas services and two distinct worship experiences. The festivities begin with our “Christmas Music Celebration,” on Tues., Dec. 23, at 7 p.m. This service is perfect for those out of town on Christmas Eve, or those just wanting to experience a joyful, musical celebration with wonderful Christmas music and carols. Just as on Christmas Eve, this service will end with songs by candlelight.

Our beautiful Christmas Eve Candlelight services will be offered at both 3 and 5 p.m. All services will be held at Harada Elementary.

Join us, and discover that God is still in the miracle business. This Christmas, Jesus just might be your miracle.
