Pray for your Kids and Grandkids

By Mark Hopper

University of Arizona baseball Coach Jerry Kendal shared a wonderful story at a Men’s Conference I attended in the 1980’s. When Jerry was a young boy he burst into his grandfather’s bedroom while Jerry was playing hide and seek with his siblings. He was startled to find his grandfather kneeling by his bed in prayer. When Jerry tried to apologize his grandfather told him to not worry – he said he was just praying for Jerry.

I’m sure that every parent and grandparent prays for their children and grandchildren every day. I always prayed for their health and safety.  And I prayed for their faith, their friends and their future.

I prayed that they would have a vibrant personal faith in Christ. Each generation must decide for themselves if they will become followers of Jesus. Parents and grandparents can sow the seeds of faith in the next generation but each one must decide for themselves who they will follow. The Old Testament leader Joshua said he and his family chose to follow the Lord (Joshua 24:15).

Friends are a vital part of a child’s development. This is true for young children and teenagers, too. Friends have a large influence in a child’s development. Teenagers are impacted by peer pressure too. Friends also provide encouragement and reassurance during those formative teenage years. Friends can draw your children closer to God or steer them away from Him. I prayed for good friends with a common faith.

I also prayed for their future. I prayed God would help them in their studies and guide them in their choice of careers. I also prayed they would find a spouse who shared their faith and values.

Author Tim Kimmel wrote a book titled – Extreme Grandparenting. In his book he emphasized how important grandparents are in the lives of their children and grandchildren. One of the most important things they can do is to pray for their children and grandchildren. The Apostle Paul instructed older men and women to live lives that the younger generations would follow (Titus 2:2-4). I’m sure this included prayer. Let me encourage you to pray for your children and grandchildren every day. Pray for their faith, friends and future. Pray for their health and safety too. You will be glad you did and they will too.

Summer

Melody Kraemer

When I think all is calm and I’m finally getting a grasp on things, something comes along that shakes my world.

Oh, these last few days haven’t been easy, though.  It’s summer and the kids are out of school. I have one that will be going into Jr high and one into high school in the fall. It may seem like a small change and butterflies in the stomach entering into a new environment. But…in the autism world, it’s more like buffalos in the stomach, the gut-wrenching feeling of the unknown.

I got comfortable with our team at the school. Yes, there’s a team for my boys. It’s not only the teachers; so many more people are involved. I am sure that trying to schedule an IEP with all involved is very hectic, so my schedule best be open when I get that notice.

Two new schools, two new teams, new faces, a new environment, new bus drivers, new schedules, and so on have given me more anxiety than I care to deal with.

As I am trying to deal with this anxiety and grasp what is to come, I tell myself, let’s enjoy these summer months and put those anxiety feelings on hold. That’s easier said than done when I realized my youngest, semi nonverbal autistic child, got into my passcodes and decided he wanted to order a $3000.00 playset for the backyard from Amazon. Plus other items he decided he wanted. I canceled all the orders except the $3000.00 one. Having put my anxiety on the back burner, it’s now up front and center. I have to take a deep breath and remind myself  Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Here’s to a wonderful happy, stress-free summer.

One Of A Kind Renaissance Festival

Staff Reports

Corona – If you’re looking for a family fun day, you do not want to miss the Koroneburg Renaissance Festival in Corona. This annual festival will take place for 5 weekends, starting May 28th.

The Koroneburg Renaissance Festival is one of the only permanently built Renaissance Festivals in Southern California, and is the most interactive Renaissance experience around! They offer tremendous audience-participation content, giving you plenty to do and opportunities to learn about 1450-1600 A.D. history. The festival will have live performers, interactive demonstrations and games, music, German-inspired food, shopping of unique handmade items, and much more!

This festival has been around for 20 years, with the first festival taking place in 1998. “Entertaining families and friends for such a long time is a true privilege and a testament of our fantastic vendors, entertainers, and staff,” according to their website.

The Koroneburg Festival is a themed event that traditionally celebrates the artistic and cultural advancements made in Renaissance Europe. “Most festivals focus on England and Queen Elizabeth, but we do things a little differently at Koroneburg,” stated their website. “In honor of Johannesburg Gutenberg who made literacy and education accessible to all people with the movable type printing press, our event is set on the Rhine river on the border of France and Germany between 1450-1600.”

At this festival, you and your family will be welcomed by a community of people who are “passionate about entertaining, educating and creating amazing experiences that you can’t get anywhere else.” It is also not a requirement to dress in a costume, but some will dress up to join in on the fun!

The Koroneburg Renaissance Festival will be held at 14600 Baron Drive in Corona. They will be open on the following dates: May 28-30, June 4-5, June 11-12, June 18-19, and June 25-26. New Downtown Approved By Council

Staff Reports

Eastvale – At the May 11 City Council meeting, the Eastvale City Council voted 5-0 to approve a revised plan for the new Downtown Eastvale. This is expected to be developed between Hamner Avenue, Limonite Avenue, Scholar Way, and 58th Street.

Peter Carlson, the project developer’s consultant, said that construction could start as soon as 2023 and grading can begin within the next few months. However, this project could take years to build.

The new revised plan will span over 154 acres of land. Fifty-two acres off Limonite and Hamner Avenue will include commercial development of 595,000 square feet. It will also include 660 apartments, a civic center with a New City Hall, a state-of-the-art police station, and a brand-new library. In addition, 87 acres off Scholar Way and 58th Street will host 1,840 homes, including single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments. Fourteen acres will contain parks and open space. Then a new fire station will take place on one acre of land off Scholar and 58th Street.

The developer of the Leal Property, The New Home Company, said they are “committed to the growth and prosperity of the City of Eastvale by bringing together a magical destination for residents and guests,” stated the City of Eastvale in a news release. “The future downtown will also serve as an economic catalyst for the community by welcoming new businesses and employment opportunities for Eastvale.”

The Downtown Eastvale Community desires to “build a place that THRIVES in the Inland Empire while maintaining our historic charm,” stated the Downtown Eastvale website. Eastvale Named 26th Safest Cities

Staff Reports

Eastvale – The City of Eastvale was recently ranked as the 26th safest City in California by SafeWise.com. This ranking was three spots higher since their last report.
The City of Eastvale announced their excitement of this higher ranking. “The Eastvale City Council makes public safety a top priority,” stated a news release. “In the last year, the Council has increased public safety personnel hours, added additional special enforcement team (SET) deputies, and additional motorcycle officers to help keep our City safe.”
They added, “Shoutout to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station for making this ranking possible by keeping our community safe!”
To identify the 50 safest cities in California, SafeWise reviews FBI crime report statistics and population data. Their evaluation is based on “the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) in each city and the number of reported property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft),” according to SafeWise.com. Arson was excluded in this report since it is excluded from the FBI’s property crime rates.
SafeWise.com also stated they “calculated the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in each city. This makes it easier to directly compare the likelihood of these crimes occurring in cities with vastly different populations.”
In addition, “both violent and property crime numbers were weighted equally. That means that a city with no violent crimes reported could end up lower on the list due to a higher property crime rate, and vice versa.” They also “standardized violent and property crime for each state before weighting.”
