An Unforgettable Week

One of the highlights of summer at our church is Vacation Bible School.  Many others churches in the community also offer VBS in June, July or August.

Vacation Bible School is a huge undertaking.  We will have over 100 volunteers serving in a variety of capacities to make this week possible.

The planning and preparations have been going on for months.  In fact, the theme and many ideas began last summer.

Vacation Bible School includes Bible lessons, crafts, recreation, and music.  The children love it and often remember it for many years to come.

One of the unforgettable benefits of VBS are the friendships that develop between the volunteers.  When you spend a week serving together, you get to know people on a much deeper level.  New friendships are formed that last a long time.

VBS touches multiple generations.  And, many of the current teen and adult volunteers attended VBS as children in the past.

This year one of my adult daughters and her four children will attend Vacation Bible School at our church.   Almost 30 years ago my daughter was an attendee and 20 years ago she was a volunteer!  Now she is bringing her own children to VBS.

Please accept this invitation to bring your children to Vacation Bible School this month. The dates are July 25-29th from 9 a.m. to noon.  VBS is open to children from Kindergarten through the fifth grade. There is a nominal registration fee.  You can find out all of the details and register online at our web site – efreedb.org.  Or you can call the church office at (909) 549-7604.

I hope you will enroll your in Vacation Bible School.  It really is an unforgettable week. You will be glad you did and they will too!

Pastor Mark Hopper is from the Evangelical Free Church of Diamond Bar, 3255 South Diamond Bar Blvd.  Sunday services are 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.  For more information, call (909) 594-7604 or visit Efreedb.org.

Free VBS Returns To Eastvale

By Claire Lewis

Eastvale – Once again, Edgewater Lutheran Church brings Vacation Bible School (VBS) to summertime in Eastvale.  This event – free for children 4  to 12 years of age – not only helps to provide a foundation in faith, but the kids have fun, are completely engaged in the program, and enjoy being with friends, old and new.

The theme this year is, “Everest:  Conquering Challenges With God’s Mighty Power.” The program will take your children on an icy expedition where they will learn to overcome obstacles that will help them with life’s challenges based upon Bible truths.  There are group sessions, learning pods, sciency-fun gizmos, and amazing music!

Edgewater is very passionate about their VBS program, and they look forward to providing it for the community each summer.  Senior Pastor, Tim Eaton, says, “Come and join us for the most fun week of summer for the kids – and the most relaxing week of summer for the parents.  It’s a blessing for everyone!”

VBS will be held Monday through Friday, July 20 to 24, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. daily; at Ramirez Middle School (6905 Harrison Avenue, Eastvale).  Not only is the program free, but dinner is provided each day.

Registration is now open online at:  http://edgewaterlutheran.org/#/events/vacation-bible-school.

Edgewater worships each Sunday, 10 a.m., at Harada Elementary (12884 Oakdale Street, Eastvale).

Eastvale: Vacation Bible School

About a hundred years or so ago, back when I was in elementary school, I had what I now realize was the privilege of attending Vacation Bible School, or VBS as it were. In those days they used to pull a trailer up in the front of the school; almost a little chapel on wheels. For a couple of weeks each year I was excused from class by way of a permission slip from my mother, and I spent an hour or so each day learning about Jesus.

I used to love being dismissed from my studies (yeah, I didn’t fall in love with school until college). There was something very special about walking up the steps of that trailer and sitting in one of the little pews. I can tell you as a certainty that I don’t remember a single moment of the studies that I missed during class time, but I profoundly recall the stories and teachings that I learned at VBS. In fact, I would be so bold as to say that the learnings that happened so many years ago have had a direct correlation to the strong level of faith that I have today.

I still look forward to seeing what VBS has in store locally, and appreciate that Eastvale churches offer several programs each year. Some offer paid curriculums, and some are free (and even include a daily dinner – a true definition of a happy meal). I am grateful that my family is still involved in VBS and that two little boys in particular look forward to it, just as I did.

This summer, when you hear that charming phase that always seems to accompany children too long ‘round the house, “Mom, I’m bored!” remember that there might be a local VBS program just around the corner that could not only occupy their time, but perhaps teach some positive, life-long lessons.

Happy VBS-ing!
