City of Eastvale Appoints New Assistant City Manager

Eastvale – Bryan Jones’s appointment as Eastvale’s new Assistant City Manager became official on Monday, April 16. Bryan and his wife, Shari, have been married for ten years. They have two children and three black Labradors.

The appointment concluded a six-month nationwide recruitment process. Jones was selected from ninety qualified applicants. “We are thrilled to have Bryan serve as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Eastvale,” City Manager Michele Nissen said. “He is passionate about helping the City move in the direction of our full potential that will ultimately help us serve the community in the best way. I am confident that he will do a great job in this position.” Bryan draws his knowledge from his nearly 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. He has led cutting-edge land use and transportation infrastructure projects throughout California and North America as a results-oriented certified planner and professional engineer. He has more than a decade of experience serving in local agency public sector leadership positions, leading large scale land use projects such as residential developments, office campuses, industrial parks, transit oriented development, downtown revitalization, and mixed use projects. Bryan has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Norwich University with focus on Leadership and Sustainable Financial Strategies, as well as a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from University of California Davis with a minor in communications. Bryan is a certified National Complete Streets Instructor and for the past six years, he has served at Caltrans as a voting member of the California Traffic Control Devices Committee for the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Woman Crashes Into Corona Walmart Produce Section

Corona– A Riverside woman crashed her sedan through the glass door and into the produce section of a Corona Neighborhood Walmart on an otherwise uneventful Sunday evening in April.

The woman who was later identified as Diane Mickens, 56, of Riverside, drove through the entrance of the store in the 1500 block of W. Sixth Street around 7:45 p.m. Sunday, April 15, Corona police officials said.

A Walmart employee called 911 after the vehicle came to a rest approximately 25 feet into the produce section. Witnesses say, Mickens got out of the sedan, walked away from the scene and left her two passengers engulfed bin debris and scattered fruits and vegetables.

Officers found Mickens a little later walking near Smith Street and Pleasant View Avenue, she was detained. When the Paramedics showed up at the scene they determined Mickens needed  medical attention. She was transported to a local hospital where she was issued a citation for suspicion of driving under the influence.

She was the only one hurt in the crash.

Many people enquired about the reason the woman wasn’t being held in jail.

“If a person in police custody is treated at a medical facility, the taxpayers end up paying for the cost of that treatment,” A Corona police representative explained on Facebook. Just issuing a citation has no impact on the charges the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office may file later date.

It’s standard operating procedure for the department to issue a citation when a suspect requires medical treatment.

 

The Uniqueness of Christianity

Jesus said in John 14:6: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This claim rankles people like no other. Christians have been called arrogant, narrow-minded, and bigoted for saying Jesus is the only way to God. But the thing is, Jesus is the one who says that. Christians are just relating what Jesus said.

Part of the reason why this claim is so controversial is because it strikes at the core of three great myths about religion. I’ll briefly address the first one. The first myth says: “When you get down to it, all religions are basically the same.” The truth is that there are major differences between the religions of the world. And Christianity is like no other.  Christianity’s uniqueness is rooted in the uniqueness of Jesus himself.

Someone once noted that other religious leaders say, “Follow me and I’ll show you how to find truth.”  But Jesus says, “I am the truth.”

Other religious leaders say, “Follow me and I’ll show you the way to salvation.”  But Jesus says,  “I am the way to eternal life in heaven.”

Other religious leaders say, “Follow me and I’ll show you how to become enlightened.”  But Jesus says, “I am the light.”

Other religious leaders say, “Follow me and I’ll show you the door that leads to God.”   But Jesus says, “I am the door.”

Then Jesus adds, “So follow Me.”

What the different religions of the world teach contradict each other, so let’s not pretend they are all true. That’s irrational. They can’t all be true. What one needs to look for is who authenticated their claims.  Jesus claimed to be divinity and the only way to God, so how does he back up his claims? Jesus backs up his claims with unique credentials that make him uniquely credible.

For example, Jesus fulfilled dozens of centuries-old prophecies against all mathematical odds of probability. And unlike other religious leaders, Jesus performed great miracles that further authenticated his claim of being God’s one and only Son. And in the most spectacular demonstration of his deity, Jesus fulfilled his own prediction by rising from the grave after three days exactly as he said he would. And this was witnessed by more than 500 people.  No other religious leader ever did the powerful things Jesus did.  So, it’s not narrow-minded to say Jesus is the only way to God if the overwhelming evidence supports that claim.

 

Where He Leads

Be strong and of good courage…for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”  – Joshua 1:9

The children of Israel were ready to cross the Jordan into the Promise Land, but there was one thing in their way, the Jordan.  It was Harvest and it was a torrent of rushing water and virtually impassible (Joshua 3:15).  God instructed Joshua that they were to cross regardless.  God added He will be with them and He would make the Jordan passable.  In a “step of faith,” the priests were instructed to go first and to take the Ark of the Covenant and start the process.  God said when the feet of the priests dip in the edge of the water that the waters would part.  So God lead them and parted the waters the moment the priests dipped their feet in the water just as He said He would.  God also told the priests to stand on the dry river bed until every last person had crossed.  Why?  The Ark of the Covenant stands as a reminder of God’s presence.  He wanted the people to know He was with them as they passed through the waters.  Where is God leading you?  Does it seem difficult or impossible?  Remember wherever God leads you, He will be with you.  Daniel was lead to the Lion’s den as a result of his faithfulness to God but God shut the mouths of the Lions.  Jesus told His disciples “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).  God reminds His people in Scripture “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).  God’s strength is realized in allowing God’s leading.

What to Know About Seasonal Allergies and Your Eyes

Suffering from itchy, watery eyes? You may have ocular allergies or you could have another issue entirely, such as chronic dry eyes. Experts say that getting the correct diagnosis is the only way to treat symptoms properly.

 

“Chronic dry eye often mimics the symptoms of seasonal allergies and must be approached entirely differently,” says Arian Fartash, VSP network optometrist. “Many over-the-counter allergy treatments can actually make dry eyes worse, so make an appointment with your eye doctor to determine the exact cause of your discomfort.”

 

If your itchy and watery eyes are diagnosed as ocular allergies, Dr. Fartash recommends taking the following steps.

 

  • Limit your exposure to pollen on high pollen count days.

 

  • Wash your face after being outside to reduce the amount of pollen on the skin.

 

  • Use cold compresses for some added relief.

 

  • Don’t rub your eyes, as this will increase your body’s overreaction to the irritants.

 

  • Remove contact lenses, which can attract allergens that accumulate throughout the day. Consider wearing your glasses or switching to daily disposable contacts during allergy season.

 

  • Try over-the counter eye drops. There are a number of allergy drops that are formulated to relieve itchiness, redness, and watery eyes. But consult your optometrist to find out which are the best recommended.

 

  • Consider prescription medications. If the symptoms won’t go away, you might need something stronger. Go see your eye doctor to discuss if a prescription medication is right for you. You can find a doctor local to you by consulting the VSP-network at vsp.com/find-eye-doctors.

 

Don’t suffer this season. See your best and feel your best by getting your eye symptoms properly diagnosed and treated.

Draft Environmental Impact Report

This notice is to advise the City of Eastvale has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR), which is being distributed for public review pursuant to the California Public Resources Code and the California Environmental Quality Act Guidelines (CEQA Guidelines). The City is the Lead Agency for the proposed project.
Project Title: Lewis Retail Project [State Clearinghouse No. 2017101024]

Project Location: The project sites are located in the City of Eastvale, and within Riverside County, California. Site 1 is located east of Hamner Avenue at the terminus of Schleisman Road, approximately 3 miles west of Interstate 15 (I-15) in the southeastern portion of Eastvale on two parcels identified as Assessor’s Parcel Numbers (APN) 152-060-002, -003. Site 2 is an approximately 1.38-acre City-owned parcel consisting of vacant land located at the southwest corner of Hamner Avenue and Riverboat Drive, identified as APNs 152-350-010, -011.

Project Description: The Draft EIR addresses entitlements related to two different sites, that may be considered together, or separately, by the City.

  • General Plan Amendments on Sites 1 and 2 to change the land use designation to Commercial Retail.
  • Change of Zone on Site 1 to change the zoning to General Commercial (C-1/C-P).
  • Tentative Parcel Map to subdivide Site 1 into eight commercial parcels and one right-of-way parcel.
  • Major Development Plan Reviews for Site 2 and a portion of Site 1.  Detailed applications for these buildings have not yet been submitted.

Government Code Section 65962.5: The project site is not located on a site which is included in a list of hazardous materials sites compiled pursuant to Government Code Section 65962.5. As part of the Phase I ESA prepared for the Sites, a search of selected government databases was conducted using the EDR Radius Report environmental database report system. Neither Site is located on a list of hazardous materials sites compiled by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) or the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) pursuant to Government Code Section 65962.5.

Environmental Topics Evaluated: The Draft EIR examines the potential impacts generated by the proposed project in relation to the following environmental topics: Land Use and Planning; Transportation/Traffic; Air Quality; Global Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Emissions; Noise; Geology and Soils; Hazards and Hazardous Materials; Hydrology and Water Quality; and Cultural Resources/Tribal Resources. Significant Environmental Impacts: Based on the analysis in the Draft EIR, the project would have significant and unavoidable impacts to air quality, GHG emissions, noise, and traffic and circulation, as identified below and described in detail in DEIR Sections 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, and 4.2 respectively. Air Quality: NOx Regional Threshold Exceedance (Operational-Source), Contributions to Non-Attainment Conditions, AQMP Inconsistency GHG Emissions: SCAQMD MTCO2e Threshold Exceedance  Noise: Construction-Source Noise, Operational-Source Noise Traffic: Existing and Opening Year Intersection and Roadway Segment Level of Service (LOS) Impacts

Riverside County Sheriff’s That Thwarted Norco College Attack Is Honored

Norco – The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department team, who were responsible for thwarting an attack on Norco College, were honored by the Norco City Council. The forward thinking team used creative methods to stop the attack before the suspect could even start it.

All together there were about 20-30 people who worked for 18 hours straight on February 19 to identify and locate the suspect before his planned plot was able to be carried out. Deputies assigned to the Norco and Jurupa Valley stations, as well as Assistant Sheriff Joseph Cleary, Capt. Daniel Hedge, Norco station Lt. Eric Briddick and dispatcher Jennifer Hall along with other deputies assigned to the Norco and  Jurupa Valley stations were all part of the team.

The team was praised for some serious out-of-the-box thinking by members of the department that helped identify the people that were going to cause harm. The City Council members presented the sheriff’s employee’s with certificates of appreciation.

It was reported that Mayor Ted Hoffman said, “This is the least we do for the fine job you guys did on this matter. “We appreciate what you guys have done here.”

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department adamantly declined to describe the methods used by this team to thwart the attack. They also declined to allow Hall to be interviewed because the investigation is still ongoing.

On February 19, investigators tracked threats made on the Facebook page of Jacob Ryan McBain, 27, of Norco. He was arrested two days later at his Trail Street Home. Reports show that handguns and an assault rifle were seized from the residence.

McBain has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of making criminal threats, possession of an assault weapon, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and three counts of illegally possessing ammunition. McBain plead  not guilty to all charges and is due back in court this month.

McBain’s social media accounts were then used to identify an alleged co-conspirator, Tarence Michael Thomas, 25, of Milwaukie, Oregon. Thomas was arrested on February 28; he faces one count of conspiracy to commit murder. He is currently awaiting extradition from Oregon.

 2 Corinthians 4:5 We do not preach about ourselves. We preach about Jesus Christ. We say that he is Lord. And we serve you because of him.

It’s always dangerous to make assumptions. I am reminded of the businesswoman who found herself with an extra hour of airport down time. She bought a magazine, a coffee and a small package of cookies, preparing to pass the time as best she could in the crowded waiting area.

Absorbed in her reading, she reached over and picked up a cookie to nibble on. To her great surprise, a stranger two seats over reached into the same packet and began eating the second cookie. Stunned, she tried to ignore it. Only after 20 more quiet minutes did she reach in to take the third cookie. The stranger took the fourth. Then he picked up the near-empty package and sarcastically asked, “Would you like the last one?” Infuriated, she marched off in a huff to the airline gate, reached into her bag for her boarding pass . . . and found her unopened package of cookies! Her anger had been based on a wrong assumption.

Some assumptions are much more dangerous than that.  For example some may never have actually taken the step of faith to surrender their life to Jesus Christ. You may have the wrong assumption that your good works will get you into heaven.

You can change that at this moment. Jesus Christ, who lived a perfect life, died on a cross to pay the divine penalty for your sins and was raised to life to defeat death forever, is as near as your next breath. He offers eternal life to you in His open hands.

If you are not sure you are a follower of Christ, if you’ve never received His gift of salvation, you can confess your sins to Him right now and, through faith in Him, receive His forgiveness and ask Him to become Lord of your life?

5 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day, an annual opportunity to celebrate the natural world and get involved in short- and long-term efforts to protect the environment. Here are five ways to celebrate.

 

  1. Volunteer. Many neighborhoods and communities around the country host volunteer clean-ups to honor Earth Day. Find one in your area or organize your own: gather some friends, some sturdy garbage bags and pairs of work gloves, and head out to a park or the shore of a local waterway for a clean-up.

 

  1. Enjoy nature. Get outside and enjoy nature. Even if you aren’t an experienced hiker, there are plenty of tools to make getting outdoors easy, such as wearable tech, which can support your adventure.   1. Update your technologies. Outdated tech often contains harmful elements that can hurt the environment, such as lead paint or mercury. Check out newer models that meet international standards like The Minamata Convention on Mercury. Eastvale is the Most Diverse City in So Cal

Eastvale – We Americans love to boast about our diversity and California can be heard above all other claiming the title of most diverse. It is a very prestigious title indeed when you really look into what diversity can mean to a community. Different cultures, languages, ideas and experiences naturally will produce more new innovative information than homogeneous.

The City of Eastvale, a young community nestled in the Inland Empire, looks like it is growing up in the right environment to be a successful community for decades to come. Eastvale is among one of the most diverse cities in America, according to an analysis by NerdWallet.com of the distribution of residents across ethnic groups.

Eastvale was ranked as the #1 most diverse city in all of Southern California and the 13th most diverse city in America. The diversity of the Eastvale community breaks down as follows: 38.6% Hispanic or Latino, 25.30% Asian or Pacific Islander, 24.20% are white (non-Hispanic) and 9.70% are Black (non-Hispanic).

This is great news for the Eastvale.  According to studies and research, diversity breeds a more robust and resilient economy. There’re a lot of different groups of people with vastly different experiences, talents and ideas available to contribute to the advancement of the community. Living in a multicultural society forces you to get out of your comfort zone and learn things about other people you would otherwise have to travel out of country to learn.

One thing Californian’s learned a long time ago is that there are many intellectual and personal benefits that come from learning another language. When you live in a multilingual society you will be encouraged to take on this challenge.

When you couple this information with the fact that Eastvale has the highest median household income in the Inland Empire and one of the highest in the state, you have a recipe for success. Eastvale was also just recently voted as one of the top 100 safest cities in America.

It seems like Eastvale is growing faster than ever but it looks like that growth has been well thought out and is progressing in the right direction. With everything going on  in our country, Eastvale just keeps hitting positives goals and making  positive lists. If you are looking for a place to live, work and raise a family, go ahead and put Eastvale on your short list and contact your real estate agent.

Motorcyclist Killed, Corona Man Arrested

Corona – A Corona man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence when he collided with a motorcyclist early Sunday morning. The collision on the westbound 60 Freeway in Jurupa Valley left the motorcyclist, a Menifee resident, dead, the California Highway Patrol said Monday, April 2.

Tonga Tavake, 59, died at the scene of the accident on the freeway just west of Valley Way, the Riverside County Coroner said Monday. Tavake was struck by several passing motorists as he lay motionless on the pavement, the CHP incident log reported.

The initial call that went out for the 4:07 a.m. crash was that a 2006 Volkswagen had collided with a center divider. Only a few minutes later, a report of a motorcyclist down in the No. 1 (fast) lane of the freeway in the same area came across the radio, according to CHP reports. Later it was learned that the collision involved both the motorcycle, and the Volkswagen from the earlier report. The motorcycle rider had been ejected from the motorcycle, the Monday report said.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as a 24-year-old Wilson Mayora Jr. of Corona, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. He remained in custody Monday night at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.

The accident remains under investigation; anyone with information about it is encouraged to contact the Riverside California Highway Patrol Accident Investigation Unit at (951) 637-8000.

There will be Snacks, refreshments and each person in each age group that crosses the finish line will be rewarded with a medal for their participation and effort!

There will be a 5K or a 10K run available to run in on this day and the cost of registration is $45. There will also be a team option available and the top 3 largest teams will be recognized.

The 1 Mile Kids’ Run is for kids 10 years and under and this event will be a 100 Mile Club recognized event .

When We Are Drowning In Our Blessings

Last month, California’s prayers were answered.  After years of water shortages and dry weather, the sky opened up and rain began to fall.  And fall.  Within weeks, approximately 80% of the state’s historic drought had ended.  Californians, however, soon found themselves drowning in their blessings.  As the soil became saturated and the streets flooded, many people grew frustrated with the very thing they had asked God to send.

 

Being unappreciative of God’s gifts is not unusual.  Just take a look at our daily lives.  We yearn for children, but lament the active toddler or trying teenager.  We ask God for shelter, but despise the never-ending housework. We pray for a steady paycheck, but can’t stand our co-workers.  From the beloved spouse we argue with to the dinner we don’t want to cook, we often have a tendency to take life’s blessings for granted.

 

Much has been said about the need to have an “attitude of gratitude.”  And honestly, who doesn’t want to be grateful for everything they have?  Unfortunately, it is easy to lose sight of the positive when faced with the negative.  No matter how hard we try to fight them off, bad thoughts can creep in.  Because of this, we need to intentionally find something to be thankful for in each situation we face – no matter how bad it is.

 

Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”  The next time you are frustrated while cleaning the toilet or sitting in traffic, remember that many of these circumstances are the result of your answered prayers.

Eastvale Area Crime Recap: March 2018

INCIDENT: OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

WHEN: 3/8/18

WHERE: 9900 Block of Willowbrook Rd., Jurupa Valley

 

On March 8, 2018, at about 5:35 PM, officers from the Riverside Police Department were conducting an investigation for a wanted suspect within the 9900 block of Willowbrook Road, Jurupa Valley.  As the officers encountered the suspect an officer involved shooting occurred.  Life-saving measures were performed, but the suspect succumbed to his injuries.  No citizens or officers were injured as a result of this incident.  Deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station responded and assisted Riverside Police Department personnel.  Based on this being an ongoing investigation, the identity of the suspect is being withheld at this time.  Riverside County Sheriff Department’s Central Homicide Unit investigators responded and assumed the investigation.  The Riverside Police Department also sent out an investigative team to investigate the incident.  Per the Riverside Police Department’s policy, the involved officers were placed on administrative leave.  This is an ongoing investigation and the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s Central Homicide Unit encourages anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Investigator Johnson at 760-393-3502, or Investigator Liu of the Jurupa Valley Station at 951-955-2600.

 

INCIDENT: POSSESSION OF STOLEN VEHICLE, INVESTIGATION AND ARREST

WHEN: 3/9/18

WHERE: 1200 Block of Hamner Ave., Norco

 

On Friday, March 9, 2018, about 7:27 p.m., a deputy assigned to the Norco Sheriff’s Office conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle, in the 1200 block of Hamner Avenue, in the City of Norco. A records check of the vehicle revealed it had been reported stolen. The vehicle driver and passenger were subsequently detained, pending the investigation. The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Amanda Cortez, age 28, a Jurupa Valley resident, and the vehicle passenger was identified Marco Raul Arevalo, age 28, a Montclair resident. Cortez and Arevalo were arrested for possession of stolen property in addition to several outstanding felony warrants. Both suspects were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center, in the City of Riverside for the listed charges and warrants.

INCIDENT: PACKAGE THEFT- SEEKING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE

WHEN: 3/9/18

WHERE: 400 Block of Branding Iron Ln., Norco

The Norco Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a package theft suspect.

On Saturday, March 10, 2018, about 3:00 p.m., a deputy from the Norco Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence, located in the 400 block of Branding Iron Lane, in the City of Norco. This was in reference to a reported package theft.

The subsequent investigation revealed that on Friday, March 9, about 6:30 p.m., a female suspect had walked up to the front of the residence, stole several delivered packages, and fled the location. The theft was recorded on a home camera surveillance system. The female suspect was described as being white, approximately 30 years of age, with light brown or red hair. She was last seen wearing a blue floral blouse, blue jeans, and red tennis shoes. Anyone who has information about the identity of the suspect or has any information pertaining to this case, is encouraged to contact Deputy Hughes of the Norco Sheriff’s Office, at (951) 270-5673.

 

INCIDENT: ASSAULT

WHEN: 3/21/18 (UPDATED: 3/22/18)

WHERE: 13000 Block of Dearborn St., Eastvale

UPDATE: On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, around 3:00 p.m., the suspect vehicle and suspect were identified and located. The suspect, Juan Francisco Romero Coto, was booked in at the Robert Presley Detention Center for an unrelated warrant. The case will be submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review. ORIGINAL INCIDENT: On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, around 7:10 a.m. officers assigned to the Eastvale Police Department responded to an assault that occurred on the Riverwalk Trail near Dearborn Street. During the assault, the suspect knocked the victim to the ground, the victim kicked the suspect off and the suspect fled on foot. A person of interest was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt with white lettering on the back. The person of interest was seen entering a white Chevy 2-door pick-up truck equipped with white work racks and an orange water cooler tied to the bed. The pick-up was towing a white, single axle trailer. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Investigator Contreras of the Eastvale Police Department at (951) 955-2600.

INCIDENT: QUALITY OF LIFE ENFORCEMENT OPERATION

WHEN: 3/22/18

WHERE: Mission Blvd. Business District, Jurupa Valley

DETAILS: On March 22, 2018, deputies assigned to the Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team conducted a directed enforcement and undercover operation in the Mission Boulevard Business District of Jurupa Valley after receiving numerous complaints from business owners and citizens regarding suspicious activity in the area. During this operation, Hakeen Joadikay Richardson, a 27-year-old resident of Perris, was observed loitering for the purpose of prostitution and subsequently arrested on scene. The Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team will continue to monitor and deter criminal activity in the Mission Boulevard Business District and is asking anyone with concerns related to suspicious or criminal activity in the area to contact the Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team at 951-955-2600.

INCIDENT: VEHICLE THEFT INVESTIGATION AND ARREST

WHEN: 3/29/18

WHERE: 1300 Block of Sixth St., Norco

DETAILS: On Wednesday, March 28, 2018, about 9:44 a.m., a deputy assigned to the Norco Sheriff’s Office, was patrolling near a business, located in the 1300 block of Sixth Street, in the city of Norco.  While at this location, a citizen advised the deputy their vehicle had just been stolen from the business parking lot. Deputies obtained the victim’s vehicle description and the last known direction of travel. Within minutes, responding deputies located the suspect driving the stolen vehicle on a nearby street. Deputies attempted to conduct an enforcement stop on the stolen vehicle; however, the suspect drove away, and a pursuit ensued. The suspect attempted to evade pursuing deputies by driving onto the northbound I-15 Freeway from Sixth Street. As the suspect drove on the freeway, he collided into a ravine near the right shoulder. The suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee from deputies on foot but was quickly apprehended without incident. The driver was identified as Menny Gaytan, age 28, a resident of Pomona. Gaytan was arrested for vehicle theft and evading a peace officer. Following the arrest, Gaytan was transported to a nearby hospital for a precautionary medical evaluation as a result of the vehicle collision. Gaytan was released from the hospital and later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in the City of Riverside for the listed charges. The Norco Sheriff’s Office is committed to the safety of the citizens of Norco and will be vigilant in investigation all crimes of this nature. Fatal Accident Victim Identified From Eastvale

Eastvale – On March 14, 2018, authorities identified a 24 year old male from the City of Eastvale who was a victim of a freak fatal accident that Wednesday afternoon. The deadly incident occurred on the westbound interstate 210 freeway near the Buena Vista Street off- ramp at approximately 12:42 p.m. The accident was a result of heavy metal debris that allegedly flew through the vehicleowner’s windshield; which immediately affected the security of the vehicle, safety of the driver, and induced the passenger to attempt to maintain control of the vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta. Disclosed by authorities and present witnesses, this incident was the resultof a heavy unidentified vehicle (possibly an SUV or pickup truck)that seemingly drove over metal debris which instantly ascended into open air, and unintentionally plowed directly through the window of the Jetta. Although the passenger of the vehicle showed no signs of injury, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Stace Woodward, suffered a fatal injury to the head as a result to the impact of the metal debris. Woodward was pronounced deceased shortly after the arrival of the fire department and paramedics, despite the passenger’s attempts to revive him with first aid. “Upon our arrival, we noticed that the debris had seemingly entered the Volkswagen through the windshield, and undoubtedly struck Woodward. Afterwards, the No. 1 lane of the Buena Vista Street off ramp was blocked for about three hours while the fatal crash was investigated and the scene was cleaned up.” CHP Officer Rodrigo Jimenez stated. This occurrence is not only tragic and unfortunate, but has been presumably difficult to process for Woodward’s family  Parents Andrew and Tiffany Woodward  who referred to Stace as “A joy to our lives and beloved member of our family who brought life and love wherever he went” in the obituary to their son. The surviving family of Stace Woodward however, will be entitled to a wrongful death lawsuit, in which they will be granted the opportunity to seek compensation for damages including expenses, funeral costs, etc. While condolences are directed towards the Woodward family, if your loved one has been the victim of a wrongful death, contact the Los Angeles and Riverside Wrongful Death Attorney’s at 800-235-6801.

Stay Connected With The City Of Eastvale

Eastvale – The representatives of City of Eastvale are going the extra mile for the community once again. It is evident that keeping the community informed and improving is a top priority for the powers that be at City Hall. The love they show for the community is on display again. This time they are offering the residents with some free information to benefit them as well as the community.

The month of April isn’t any different and the City proudly brings the residents a couple of workshops to help benefit the future of its residents and their families.

On Wednesday April 11, at 5:30 p.m. there will be a Financial goal setting workshop held at City Hall followed by a City Council Meeting at 6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday April 25, at 5:30 p.m. there will be a Public Safety Goal Setting Workshop at City Hall followed by a City Council Meeting at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a couple of public meetings in May and we encourage the residents to show up and stay connected.

On May 23 at 5:30 p.m. there will be a Draft Budget first hearing meeting at Rosa Parks Elementary on Whispering Hills Drive in Eastvale.

On June 27 at 5:30 p.m. there will be a Draft Budget second hearing & adoption meeting at Rosa Parks Elementary on Whispering Hills Drive in Eastvale.

These workshops and public meeting are just Eastvale’s way of staying connected to the community. We encourage all residents to attend these special events so that the community can stay connected to the city.

High Speed Chase Ends in Suicide in Corona

Corona- A man, who authorities believe may be connected to a Los Angeles County homicide case,  shot and killed himself following a high speed  pursuit that began in Hesperia and ended in Corona, on Friday, March 23.

The driver, identified as Christopher Spotz, 33, of North Hollywood, was armed with a handgun during the pursuit and was later pronounced deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound according to California Highway Patrol Officials.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies began the pursuit around 8:45p.m.  on Friday night. They informed the CHP that their deputies were heading south on the 15 Freeway in Hesperia and were in pursuit of a Toyota Tacoma pickup that had been reported as stolen.

The pursuit began when a deputy from Hesperia, who was in the area of Mariposa Road and the 15 freeway,  received a license-plate reader alert that the Tacoma had been involved in a crime in LAPD’s jurisdiction. The deputy attempted to pull the driver of the vehicle over. Spotz apparently had other plans and instead continued driving south on the freeway at a high rate of speed.

Other deputies then joined the chase and pursued the vehicle through the Cajon Pass and into both San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Once they entered the Mira Loma area, in Riverside County, San Bernardino Deputies dropped out of the pursuit and California Highway Patrol officers assumed the pursuit.

During the pursuit, officials used two spike strips, which flattened the truck’s tires, but the driver refused to stop and eventually got onto the westbound 91 Freeway, officials said, exiting at Green River Road in Corona and heading to Rio Vista Street, a dirt road south of the 91. At approximately 9:38 p.m., the driver pulled over, turned his weapon on himself and pulled the trigger. The Riverside County Coroner stated that the official time of death was 10:23 p.m.

According to news reports, citing several law enforcement sources, Spotz was the boyfriend of a 25-year-old aspiring model and actress from Macedonia who went missing in Hollywood last month. Authorities suspect that the woman was most likely murdered  and believe that Spotz was somehow involved in her disappearance and/or homicide. ■

 

New Beginnings Church

The first time I walked in it took me back to my childhood, it is what I remember churches looked like, complete with pews, vaulted ceilings and even stained glass windows. It is a smaller venue with an old school country small town feel. Just about then is when you expect to see a preacher just south of 100 years old to come out and bore you to tears. Thankfully that isn’t what happened.

The story goes something like this, little church in Riverside needed some help with an attendance of about 40-50 parishioners. After serving as the executive pastor at New Beginnings Community Church campus in Norco California Sean was presented an opportunity to lead his own church and New Beginnings Community Church Jurupa Valley was born.

Sean Ortiz and his wife Laureen have been in ministry all over the world for the better part of 20 years. Although they are both worship leaders at heart they have been leaders in many different capacities during that span. Meet them just once and you will have an understanding of their commitment to be there for people whatever it takes.  If you have known Sean for any amount of time over 1 day you will have heard him make the statement “let go and let God.” It is what he lives his life by.

Sean and his wife Laureen started this new adventure in the summer of 2016 and the attendance is around 200. When you sit down and talk to Sean you know, deep down in your heart, that his number one goal is to help every person he meets reach their full potential in Jesus Christ.
