New Beginnings Church
By Anthony Saude
The first time I walked in it took me back to my childhood, it is what I remember churches looked like, complete with pews, vaulted ceilings and even stained glass windows. It is a smaller venue with an old school country small town feel. Just about then is when you expect to see a preacher just south of 100 years old to come out and bore you to tears. Thankfully that isn’t what happened.
The story goes something like this, little church in Riverside needed some help with an attendance of about 40-50 parishioners. After serving as the executive pastor at New Beginnings Community Church campus in Norco California Sean was presented an opportunity to lead his own church and New Beginnings Community Church Jurupa Valley was born.
Sean Ortiz and his wife Laureen have been in ministry all over the world for the better part of 20 years. Although they are both worship leaders at heart they have been leaders in many different capacities during that span. Meet them just once and you will have an understanding of their commitment to be there for people whatever it takes. If you have known Sean for any amount of time over 1 day you will have heard him make the statement “let go and let God.” It is what he lives his life by.
Sean and his wife Laureen started this new adventure in the summer of 2016 and the attendance is around 200. When you sit down and talk to Sean you know, deep down in your heart, that his number one goal is to help every person he meets reach their full potential in Jesus Christ.
You can find Pastor Sean preaching an applicable and engaging message every Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

Did You Know? All about Easter
This Christian holiday of Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The date of celebration varies from March to April, and depends on the date of the March equinox. Christians worldwide gather for this major holiday for the religion to feast, attend church services, and hunt Easter eggs. Easter Sunday marks the end of Lent, which is a 40-day period of fasting and reflection. It follows Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
The story of Easter makes up a fundamental aspect of Christian theology. While Good Friday marks Jesus’ crucifixion, Easter Sunday is a day for Christians to celebrate his resurrection. Following Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion, he was buried in a tomb. While the next part of the story varies according to different accounts, most follow the theme of female followers of Jesus going to visit the tomb and finding the stone rolled away from the opening with Jesus’s body missing. Jesus went on to appear to his followers several times before his ascension into heaven. The resurrection of Christ is an important part of Christian belief because of its association with salvation.
Christians started celebrating the tradition of Easter with a feast soon after the time period of the resurrection, which is believed to have occurred around 33 AD. The time of year was chosen for the celebration since Jesus celebrated the Passover shortly before his crucifixion and so the time is believed to be around the time of Jesus’ actual crucifixion. In medieval celebrations, congregations would walk in a procession after mass, following a priest holding a crucifix or candle.
Many Christians begin the celebration with an Easter Vigil the night before, sometimes called Easter Eve or Holy Saturday. Church services on Sunday typically follow regular church service tradition with a sermon or songs concerning the Easter story. Some churches hold mass or other services at sunrise. Other common Easter traditions include the Easter Egg Hunt and floral decorations.
The Easter egg hunt is a tradition that originated with pagan spring festivals that celebrated fertility. Like many pagan traditions, Christians intertwined the practice with religious significance. Easter egg hunts feature eggs hidden by the mythical Easter bunny, which may contain candy or other prizes. Hard-boiled eggs may also be used. The children will go looking for eggs to put in their Easter egg basket. On the day before Easter, many families decorate hard-boiled eggs with paint to use for the hunt. Eggs are also part of the tradition because of the ban on eggs during Lent in Medieval Europe, meaning they were often included in the Sunday feast.
Churches are often decorated with flowers. A significant theme for Easter is rebirth, which flowers can emulate and symbolize. Traditional Easter flowers include Easter Lilies, which are believed to have grown in the Garden of Gethsemane, the site of Jesus’ arrest. Other Easter flowers include daffodils, narcissuses, and red tulips, which symbolize Jesus’ shed blood.
In pagan celebrations, Easter was typically a celebration of fertility, and many cultures associated the celebration with the Germanic goddess of fertility, Eostre, which is where the holiday’s name came from. Some cultures called the holiday Ishtar, which celebrates the resurrection of the Tammuz, another pagan god.
The Easter Bunny is a result of folkloric tradition. Their association with the holiday comes from their ability to procreate, making them symbols of fertility. German settlers brought the Easter Bunny tradition to America in the 1700s.
C.J. Morris 3rd Graders Go One-On-One With WVUSD Schools Chief
By Kelli Gile
WALNUT—Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor fielded questions from elementary students during an official town hall meeting on Tuesday.
About 100 inquisitive C.J. Morris assembled third graders were eager to learn about the role of the Walnut Valley USD leader.
The IB-PYP students have been studying about government and how it affects lives at the national, state, city, or school level, teacher Dave Boots said.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about how government works at the school level,” added IB coordinator Kelly Howard.
The children came prepared with questions about family, hometown, background in education, and role as superintendent, working with community and government, and more.
About 15 students took turns at the microphone and waited for the thoughtful responses during the hour-long event.
Dr. Taylor shared that his job is supporting all 15 schools in the District and then went on to describe the structure of the District.
“We have a School Board, Superintendent, which is me, District office with lots of people that support our schools, and our school sites with principals, teachers, and support staff.”
“We all work together for our students!” he added.
The assembled group wanted to know the best thing about being the superintendent.
“In the five years that I’ve been here in Walnut Valley, my favorite thing has been going out and visiting schools,” he said.
“Because I’m in education, I spend every day working with people – with kids like you, teachers, and principals. I like to find out all your interesting stories!”
Dr. Taylor also told the students that there have been more changes in education during the past five years than in the last 30 or 40 years.
“It’s been an exciting time to be part of that change and to see how successful things have gone here.”
The group of students also wanted some expert advice as they begin thinking about middle school and future careers.
“You’ll be well prepared for middle school because you’re learning how to study, how to do your homework, and projects. I would be excited, it will be great!”
“My one piece of advice I like to give young people is to find something you enjoy doing. If you find that, you’ll be happy!”
Truth Stovall asked the final question during the session held in the multipurpose room.
“What is your favorite color and why?” he said.
“My favorite color is green and here’s why: I told you I like sports and football. Raise your hand if you think you know who my favorite team is,” Dr. Taylor said.
“Green Bay Packers!” the children eagerly called out.
“I liked that Dr. Taylor came to our school and shared that to be successful students we need to be kind and have fun,” commented third grader Mia Veneracion after the event.
Prepare to Buy Right
By Nef Cortez
Zig Ziglar, motivational speaker/author quoted: “Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation.” How does opportunity meet up with a home buyer? Opportunities will present themselves. Important prerequisites for a home buyer to include in their planning to be “buyer ready” and prepared to buy right and at the right opportunity are: build credit, save money for down payment, and research home ownership options.
Build Credit: Establish good credit history for eligibility and secure financing for a home loan. Set the foundation for good credit by making small purchases on credit and on-time payments. In exchange, companies measure a person’s creditworthiness by use of a FICO score. The higher the FICO score, the less risk to a lender. According to wellsfargo.com financial education/credit management, “the more your credit history shows that you can responsibly handle credit, the more willing lenders will be to offer you credit at a competitive rate.”
Save Money for Down Payment: Start small, create savings plan, and set aside money on reserves. Expense reductions i.e. “The Latte Factor,” the idea that money can be saved by cutting small, recurring daily expenses will result in big savings (frugalgene.com). Set goal, boost up savings to build larger sum of money. This prepares a buyer the ability to provide a down payment customarily required in many major purchase transactions.
Research Home Ownership Options
Home preferences, location, neighborhood, and affordability are home ownership research items. In an internet search, keep in mind the website’s content to be current and accurate. Establish relationships with realtor and/or lender for professional guidance and purchase options. Become familiar with real estate market conditions. As a buyer prepares, they have the opportunity to make the right buy that fits their needs. A well-informed buyer will buy right and at the right time.

God Owns It All
By Sean Ortiz
Have you ever wondered who is responsible for your fiscal management? Does the idea of a budget make you cringe? Well we have been going through a lesson called Impact here at New Beginnings. It is based on Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University training. One of the foundations of the class is to understand that God own’s it all. PSALM 24:1 says “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein”. In HAGGAI 2:8 it states, ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts”. Also in GENESIS 1:1 it begins with “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. As soon as we understand the concept, that we do not own anything, but that we are God’s management team. We can then realize we have a huge responsibility to manage our resources with the understanding we are accountable to the creator of Heaven and Earth. What a responsibility we have. The idea is the we would always think twice if we understood that we don’t own anything. So, what would life be like debt free and living on 80% of your income? What could you accomplish if you saved 10% and had 10% to give to charity. Who could you help? Who could be blessed by your abundance because you are managing your resources wisely. We have 3 powerful resources, our TIME, TALENT AND TREASURE. So, the question is, are you ready to live life and live it MORE abundantly? Let’s trust God with our resources so we can make an IMPACT in the world around us. Remember to always LET GO AND LET GOD……

Seafood: Food for Thought During National Nutrition Month
By StatePoint
We hear a lot about the important nutrients in vegetables and fruits, but the health benefits of eating seafood regularly aren’t always in the spotlight. It should be a no-brainer when it comes to seafood, which is packed with omega-3s. Yet, most Americans only eat one serving of seafood a week.
Here are some evidence-based facts to help set the record straight during National Nutrition Month.
1. How much seafood should I be eating?
Studies show that seafood benefits your heart, eyes and brain, and may also help you fight chronic diseases and memory loss. The 2015 Dietary Guidelines encourage all Americans to eat at least two servings of seafood each week. That’s double the amount most people currently eat. To reap the range of nutrients found in seafood, try to get a variety of fish in your diet, including shrimp, salmon, canned/pouched tuna, tilapia and pollock.
2. What if you’re pregnant?
Seafood is especially important for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as young children, since it is one of the only natural food sources rich in healthy omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. EPA and DHA are critical for brain and eye development, supporting the old adage that fish really is “brainfood.” One recent study shows that moms-to-be who ate fish two to three times each week had babies that reached milestones — such as imitating sounds, recognizing family members and drinking from a cup — more quickly than children born to mothers who didn’t eat fish regularly during pregnancy. Another recent study found that pregnant women who ate at least two seafood meals each week helped boost their child’s IQ up three points by age 9. Learn more about the best fish to eat during pregnancy at aboutseafood.com/seafood-pregnancy.
3. How to get more seafood.
Incorporating more seafood into your diet doesn’t need to be a challenge. It’s easy to get the recommended two to three servings each week by simply swapping out the protein from your favorite dishes with seafood. For example, chicken tacos become fish tacos, and grilled steak salad becomes grilled shrimp salad. What’s more, seafood is just as healthy whether it’s fresh, frozen or canned, making it a convenient item to stock up on when shopping, and ultimately helping you eliminate wasted food in your household.
4. Start the day right.
Nutrition experts recommend incorporating protein into your breakfast as a way to boost metabolism and balance your blood sugar levels for the entire day. Kicking off the morning with tuna avocado toast or salmon on a bagel will help keep you feeling fuller for longer, prevent cravings before lunchtime and help you reach your weekly seafood goals.

This National Nutrition Month, give your health a boost by eating a variety of seafood at least twice a week.
Over 1,200 Marijuana Plants Found In Chino Hills
Chino Hills – The Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) of the Sheriff’s department and Chino Hills Police Department Deputies served a search warrant at a Chino Hills residence for the illegal cultivation of marijuana.
After Deputies from Chino Hills Police Department received a tip from a concerned citizen regarding suspicious activity going on at the residence an investigation was opened. Investigators found evidence of illegal marijuana cultivation.
Investigators served their search warrant and it and were rewarded for their efforts by finding over 1,200 healthy marijuana plants. There was also 25 pounds of processed marijuana confiscated from the scene.
As is the case in most of these crimes, evidence of utility theft was also found. The main power lines that belong to SCE were tampered with in a way that allows the theft of electricity. SCE Personnel were dispatched to the scene to assist in the investigation and disconnect the electrical service at the residence. Stealing of utilities is illegal and will usually result in a fire at the incident location because of the nun-permitted methods used.
Several investigations have revealed that rental properties being used by tenants to illegally grow marijuana is a crime that is on the rise. Law enforcement officials encourage tenants and the homeowners to check with their local city code enforcement division or the law enforcement to verify if marijuana cultivation is allowed.
Generally speaking, large scale marijuana growing operations are against code in residential areas. The City of Chino Hills prohibits any type of marijuana businesses of any type. with Cilantro Lime Couscous and Green Beans
By Hello Fresh
Cooking Time: 20 mins
Servings: 4
Nutrition: 600 Calories
Ingredients:
- Veggie Stock Concentrate- 2
- Cilantro-1/2 oz
- Lime- 2
- Panko Breadcrumbs- 1 cup
- Southwest Spice Blend- 2 tbsp
- Couscous- 1 cup
- Tilapia- 22 oz
- Sour Cream- 10 tbsp
- Chipotle Powder- 1 tsp
- Green Beans- 12 oz
1 HEAT STOCK AND PREP. Wash and dry all produce except green beans. Bring ¾ cup water, stock concentrate, and a pinch of salt to a boil in a small pot. Finely chop cilantro. Cut lime into wedges. Stir together panko and Southwest spice in a shallow dish or bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
2 COOK COUSCOUS. Once stock is boiling, add couscous to pot. Cover, then remove from heat. Let stand, covered, until liquid is absorbed and grains are tender.
3 COAT FISH. Brush tilapia all over with 2 tbsp sour cream (1 pack). Season with salt and pepper. Dip each fillet into panko mixture, coating all over and pressing to adhere.
4 COOK FISH. Heat a thin layer of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat (we used 2 TBSP oil; use a nonstick pan if you have one). Add tilapia to pan and cook until flesh is opaque and panko is golden brown, 4-5 minutes per side.
5 MAKE CREMA AND STEAM GREEN BEANS. While fish cooks, combine remaining sour cream, a squeeze of lime, and chipotle powder (to taste) in a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Pierce green bean bag with a fork and place on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave on high for 3-4 minutes (or until green beans are tender), then carefully remove green beans from bag.
6 FINISH AND SERVE. Fluff couscous with a fork, then stir in half the cilantro and a squeeze of lime. Season with salt and pepper. Divide between plates, then place tilapia on top. Dollop with crema. Season green beans with salt and pepper and serve on the side. Sprinkle remaining cilantro over everything. Serve with any remaining lime wedges.
Men Of Impakt

Wow, what a month February turned out to be for me personally, spiritually and professionally. It was not easy but I will take joy in all things.
On the radio show I got to speak with former Los Angeles Ram defensive end Reggie Doss on the air. I remember watching Reggie play football in the Super bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I was a big Rams fan at the time and Vince Ferragamo was the next coming for a lot of us.
Reggie was a 7th round pick out of a little NAIA school and didn’t even play football until high school. He got married and adopted 3 young boys through the foster care system all after he turned 45 years of age. His story from a young age is truly a one of inspiration and faith.
Another show my guest was Sean Oliver, he had some great advice on how to reach our full potential both personally and professionally. Around these parts we have come to know him simply as “Master Yoda in Human Form.” He was able to give us some great insight on how fear dictates our actions more that we may understand and how that might be holding us back from the life God intended for us.
On March 1st my guest was a new friend of mine Pastor Brian Briggs. What a testimony this guy brought to the show. Brian is ex military turned pastor. We talked about his addictions and how he was able to overcome them to become ordained.
I hope you men out there were able to listen in February it was a month that true over comers took center stage to give us all hope that all things are possible.
You can listen to the recordings of these shows and all others at http://www.hoperadio247.com.

What to Know About Your Drinking Water
By StatePoint
Having clean, uncontaminated water to drink at home and on-the-go is one of the most essential components to keeping your family safe and healthy.
Unfortunately, safe water is not necessarily a given. A recent study, published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that in 2015, nearly 21 million people relied on community water systems that violated health-based quality standards. What’s more, the risks to your tap water are heightened during special circumstances like natural disasters and other emergencies.
To help ensure you are hydrating healthfully all the time — at home, in your community, on trips or in emergencies – consider investing in an easy-to-maintain water filtration device that can be used anywhere in order to improve water quality.
One example is LifeStraw, first introduced for people in developing countries without access to safe water and for victims following natural disasters. The company now makes a range of water filters and purifiers designed for uses like emergency preparedness, outdoor recreation, travel and everyday hydration. The refillable LifeStraw Go 2-Stage water bottle features a built-in filter, and removes 99.9999 percent of waterborne bacteria (including E. coli and salmonella), 99.999 percent of protozoa while also reducing chlorine organic chemical matter and bad taste. Suitable for kids, the LifeStraw Play model, a 10-oz water bottle designed for everyday use, incorporates the same technology with a sturdy kid-friendly leak-proof design. LifeStraw is available online and at your local Walmart, Target and Sam’s Club.
What’s great is this is also a company that gives back — for every LifeStraw product purchased, a school child in a community in need receives safe water for an entire school year. So far, the program has supported more than one million school children.
Keep in mind that access to clean water is a persistent and global issue. By 2050, at least one in four people is likely to live in a country affected by chronic or recurring shortages of fresh water, according to the United Nations. This highlights the growing need to take precautions both at home and when you travel, and to invest in products that give back.
To do everything you can to keep your family healthy and safe, start by taking steps to improve the water you drink.
License Plate Recognition System Pays Off
By Anthony Saude
Chino-Two men, who were reportedly driving a stolen pickup truck, were spotted by Chino Police Officers near the intersection of Kimball and Cypress avenues late in the morning on Monday, March 19. According to police the vehicle had been reported as stolen from Fontana earlier that morning.
When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver of the vehicle sped away on El Prado Road and south towards Pine next to El Prado Golf Course in attempt to evade police. After leading the officers on a short high speed chase the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a chain-link fence and nearly struck a tree.
Neither of the suspects had been identified at the time but it was the license plate recognition system that helped officers identify the vehicle. The system has only recently been activated in the City of Chino. It is a system that alerts police to stolen cars or cars used in other reported crimes. Surrounding cities that have implemented systems like these have seen a significant impact in crime reduction. The system looks like it might just meet the anticipated benefits that were talked about in August meetings. Real numbers the system may be recording on crime reduction are not available at this early date but it seems to be off to a good start.
The pair of suspects that were in the vehicle could be arrested and booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. ■

Are You Living to Die or Dying To Live?
By Nancy Stoops
Our lives are truly about our mindset and how we view our lives. I must ask you if you are living to die or are you dying to live. These two ways for which people live sure do look and sound the same but they couldn’t be more different. Take a look at the first one, living to die. To me that means the person is merely existing and just going through the motions until they die. I don’t believe there is much joy or quality of life with this style of life. I believe a pretty unhappy and dissatisfied person lives according to the idea of living to die. Now on the other hand a person who is dying to live has a life of joy and quality. I believe they are satisfied with their lives and appreciate each and every day they are honored with life.
So how do you live? Which of these two mottos do you follow? It’s never too late to change. It all starts by changing your mindset. It starts by letting go of your past, forgiving yourself and others and on being grateful each and every day we are honored to be here. As you begin the healing process your mindset will start to help you see all the good in everyday and you will start to feel empowered by the self- induced changes in you and the way you think.
I hope the change will start by reading this article. I hope you believe you deserve a better life and use this as a road map to take you there. I have faith in you that you can make the change and get the life you are worthy of!

Philly’s Best
By Anthony Saude
Mira Loma – I was in the mood for a hot sandwich and then I remembered that there was a Philly’s Best down the street that I hadn’t tried yet. If I remembered correctly, I even had a buy one get one free cupon. So I took the wife out for lunch to see what all the fuss was about.
The dining was very clean when we walked in and the hostess behind the cash registered smiled a great big inviting smile. She asked us how our day was going and enthusiastically took our order. We decided to order both a chicken and a cheese steak sandwich so we could each taste both.
I expected that they would have both the meats in a container all ready prepared but no, they actually cooked the meat to order. It was so hot and fresh I had to let it cool for a few minutes. The wait was worth it; my wife and I both agreed that the sandwiches were absolutely delicious. As good as the meat and peppers were, the bread actually stole the show.
When we left, we were full, happy and satisfied with the food and the experience. We also got a $9 sandwich for free! So pick up your CityofEastvale.com Newspaper to get your bogo coupon and head down the Philly’s Best at 6237 Pat’s Ranch Road in Mira Loma.

Decorating For Easter
One of my least favorite assignments is to “get the boxes down from the attic.” I hear these words several times a year, when my wife wants to decorate our house for a new season.
The largest number of storage boxes contain Christmas decorations. Most of these are stored on shelves in the garage. There are fewer Fall decorations and these are stored in the attic space above the garage.
Each of these seasonal decorations contribute to the festive atmosphere in our house for a few weeks. My job is to get them down and put them away again.
Now that Spring is coming, I heard those familiar words again recently. My wife asked me if I would “get the Easter boxes down from the attic”. There was a sense of urgency in her voice because two of our granddaughters were coming to our house and she wanted to let them help decorate.
I’m not sure who had more fun, the grandchildren or my wife. These two young girls had a wonderful time discovering the variety of decorations in those boxes. They couldn’t believe all the neat stuff that Grammy had collected. They loved finding places to put the decorations all over our house.
I noticed the sparkle in my wife’s eye and the smile on her face as she watched the enthusiasm of her young assistants. It was enjoyable to watch Grammy and her girls decorate our house for Easter.
I don’t know how the seasonal decorating goes on in your house, but I know it is important at our house. My wife enjoyed it very much and so did her young helpers!
This year Easter will be on Sunday, March 27th. Our church will be having three Easter Sunday services at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 a.m. We will also have one service on Good Friday, March 25th, at 7:00 p.m.
Easter is the day when Christians around the world celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. The Bible says that Jesus died on the Cross and rose from the dead to pay for our sins and to purchase a place for us in heaven. I hope you will take time to celebrate Easter this year. Get out those decorations. Get up and go to church to celebrate that Jesus is alive!
If you don’t have a church home, we would be delighted to have you worship with us on Easter Sunday. You will be glad you did and we will be too!
