Eastvale Murder Suspects Arrested

Homicide Investigation – Suspects Arrested

Investigators with the Central Homicide Unit developed information related to the murder of Alicia Rene Lopez and secured multiple search warrants.  On Monday, 12-17-18 members of the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit, Major Crimes Unit, Special Enforcement Bureau, and the Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team executed these warrants at the following locations:

  • 1800 block of Lexington Drive, Corona
  • 6500 block of Harrow Street, Eastvale
  • 13500 block of Jasper Loop Circle, Eastvale
  • 11200 block of Conner Circle, Jurupa Valley

Anthony Salcida, age 34, and Kenyatta Crockett, age 23, both residents of the city of Eastvale were arrested for the murder of Alicia Rene Lopez.  Both suspects will be charged with First Degree Murder with Special Circumstances.

This is still an ongoing investigation and we are unable to release additional information at this time.  The Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit appreciates the outpouring of support and investigative leads received from the community regarding this case and additional updates will be provided when available.

Update From 12-11-2018:

Investigators from Central Homicide Unit are continuing to follow-up on all leads and information pertaining to the death of Alicia Rene Lopez. The case remains under investigation and the public’s assistance is needed as investigators work to find the person or persons responsible for Ms. Lopez’ death. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department urges anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing a resolution to this investigation. All of the information provided thus far is appreciated and the department looks to work with the community to resolve this case.

On Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at about 8:08 pm, officers assigned to the Eastvale Police Department were dispatched to “shots being fired” in the 13000 block of Jasper Loop, in the city of Eastvale. Officers arrived and located an adult female victim, identified as Alicia Rene Lopez, 28 of Eastvale, deceased in the roadway on Jasper Loop north of Aspen Leaf Lane. One adult male was seen running from the location after the shooting, but no further information is available at this time

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Central Homicide Unit and the Jurupa Valley Station Investigators have assumed the investigation. Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance with any information regarding this incident and are encouraged to please call Investigator Vasquez of the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit at (760) 393-3529.

Ring in the New Year at the Eastvale Community Center

JURUPA VALLEY, CA (December 10, 2018) – Back by popular demand, the JCSD Parks and Recreation Department will turn the Eastvale Community Center (ECC) into the ultimate party destination.  This exciting event begins at 7:00 p.m. and will feature a disc jockey and dancing, a buffet dinner with a dessert station, two wine and beer bars, a photo booth, raffles, and a midnight balloon drop and champagne toast. The party concludes at 1:00 a.m. Designated pick-up and drop-off areas will be available for those who are using alternative transportation. 

No babysitter? That’s no problem! A separate Kids’ Corner, staffed by JCSD personnel, will be available for an extra charge of $10 per child. Games, activities, and snacks will be provided for their entertainment. Admission is $50 per person and tickets may be purchased at the ECC. This event sold out last year so don’t delay! Suspect Arrested After Allegedly Killing Man He Saw in Car With His Girlfriend Outside Hotel in Chino Hills

A Chino Hills man was pulled from his vehicle and brutally beaten to death by the boyfriend of a woman he was with on Wednesday, dec. 18, deputies said.

Authorities were alerted to the violence after the woman ran into Hotel Chino Hills with blood on her clothes, shouting for help, at about 1:15 p.m., the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Deputies responded to the hotel, on the 15400 block of Fairfield Ranch Road, and found 54-year-old Martin Zendejas in the parking lot with injuries to his head and face. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Homicide detectives who responded to the scene determined Zendejas was in his car outside the hotel with a female friend when the pair was confronted by the woman’s boyfriend, 44-year-old Chino Hills resident Ivan Mejia.

Mejia is accused of pulling Zendejas from his car and fatally beating him.

Detectives found the suspect as he was leaving his home and took him into custody.

He was booked on suspicion of murder at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, deputies said.

Inmate records showed he was being held without bail and scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 21.

Autism Mom: Who Am I?

The other day I went for a job interview and the first thing they asked me was: “Tell me about yourself.” The first thing that came out of my mouth was, “I’m a mom. An autism mom.” Not even realizing that that’s not what an employer wants to hear. Although that’s what defines me. Have I lost “me”? I know my skills. I know what I can do. I ran a front office when I owned a business; I’m on the computer daily. I run special projects, I run two websites, I know programs, excel, word, publisher, to name a few. I’ve done accounting and sales. I work with many PR companies and others.  Though when asked about me, all I could say was, “I’m a mom.” Has my world been so filled with the autism world that I have set aside all of who I am and what I can do?  My life is with two boys, IEP meetings, speech therapy, doctor’s appointments, occupational therapy and more.   Where is that line that separates the mom from the person?  Will I ever be separated from that line? The day  I walk into an interview, and they ask, tell me about yourself,  and I don’t respond by saying “I’m an autism mom”, I will know I’m ready to be me again and get out in the workforce. Though I wonder if that day will ever come. I’m an autism mom. That’s my title. That’s my life and that will never change. I do realize there is me behind all of that and I’m just not ready. Maybe I never will be ready to put me in the front of being autism mom.

Eastvale: Here We Grow Again

Eastvale– The City of Eastvale continues to grow and residents are waiting patiently for their desired establishments to open.  For example, many residents are very excited about the new In-N-Out expecting to come to town in the first quarter of 2019, according to local reports.  However, the community is also currently celebrating the businesses that have recently opened, such as the new El Pollo Loco located at 13332 Limonite Ave. in the Eastvale Marketplace retail center.

Chino Hills man arrested for possession of Molotov cocktails and being under the influence of a controlled substance

SUSPECT: Gary Cooper, 36-years-old, resident of Chino Hills

SUMMARY: 
On Sunday, December 23, 2018 at approximately 12:06 p.m., Gary Cooper called Sheriff’s dispatch requesting deputy contact for a theft report. Deputies contacted Gary Cooper in the Chino Hills Sheriff’s Station parking lot and determined he was under the influence of a controlled substance and was arrested.

During the investigation, Cooper was found to be in possession of several Molotov cocktails, a pellet handgun that had been modified to resemble a firearm, drug paraphernalia and burglary tools. Sheriff’s Arson/Bomb Detail responded and took possession o f the Molotov cocktails. Cooper was arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center for possession of a destructive/explosive device, being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of an imitation firearm, drug paraphernalia and burglary tools.

“Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth…” Luke 2:1-5

I ran across a quote that read “IRS auditor to taxpayer, as nurse prepares a syringe: “She is going to numb the area around your wallet.”  In most cases, when we hear the word tax, our minds do go to our wallets.   It was no accident that Dr. Luke mentioned the name of Caesar Augustus. This man signed a tax bill that the whole world (of that day) be taxed. He needed money to raise an army to control his vast empire and to live in luxury himself. 

It was prophesied that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem of the house and lineage of King David (Micah 5:2) 700 years before.  Mary and Joseph resided in Nazareth.  At the very time for Mary to give birth, all were summoned to the house of their ancestry for the census (Luke 2:1-5).  All who were of the lineage of David were to visit Bethlehem.  Both Mary and Joseph are of the lineage of David, so both had to go to Bethlehem.

Precisely according to Bible prophecy, and God’s sovereignty, Mary gave birth to Jesus in Bethlehem (Matthew 1:21-23, Isaiah 7:14 prophesied 800 years before). Such an event rooted deeply in prophesy and is proven that man could not orchestrate something of this magnitude. 

Joy came to the world in miraculous fashion.  This was a taxation time in history where we look back at the and its forever linked to our hearts, not our wallet.  God orchestrated when the Messiah, Jesus, was to be born into this world to save mankind from sin and instill hope forever into all who believe.  He did this for you.

Joy.  Its as much a part of Christmas as trees, gifts, mangers, and mall Santas.  We see signs that say it, and hear songs that sing about it.  But do we have it? The tragedy of Christmas is that we often find a million reasons not to have joy at this “The most wonderful time of the year.” Spending too much on gifts, the pressure to have the house, the clothes, or the family just right; juggling family time with other commitments; or extended family drama can drain the joy right out of Christmas.  For still others the joy of Christmas has been stolen more naturally by the onset of physical ailments or the loss of loved ones.

For a season of joy there sure seems to be a lack of it!  But that’s exactly why God sent his son into the world.  He sent him to be a gift to overshadow and overpower even the worst of joy stealers.  His gift of Jesus was announced with these words: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” (Luke 2:10)  Indeed, he is greater than whatever troubles you have! This Christmas clear away the stress and the clutter and remember the one who is the reason for the season is greater than the stressors of the season.  When your Christmas isn’t perfect remember that HE IS the perfect gift for you.

Eastvale Woman Fatally Shot

Eastvale – On Nov. 24, an Eastvale woman was shot and found deceased in the roadway of Jasper Loop, north of Aspen Leaf Lane.  The woman was later identified as Alicia Rene Lopez, 28 of Eastvale.  The Eastvale Police Department is currently seeking the public’s assistance to obtain any additional information regarding the shooting. 

The incident occurred at around 8:08 pm on Saturday evening, when nearby residents reported that they heard “shots being fired” in the 1300 block of Jasper Loop.  Eastvale Police Officers were dispatched to the location.  When Police officials arrived, Lopez was found in the middle of the roadway and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  It is unknown at this time if Lopez lived near the residence where she was shot. 

“One adult male was seen running from the location after the shooting,” said Sergeant Walter Mendez in a news release.  “But no further information is available at this time,” Mendez added. 

After the incident occurred, several members of the community turned to social media group pages asking what happened and what the suspect looked like.  The posts caused a lot of speculation of what could have led to the shooting.  However, out of respect for the family, many administrators of the social media sites deleted or addressed comments that contained unconfirmed information.  A family member of Lopez even commented on a post stating that the incident was not a result of domestic violence.  All parties reiterated that the incident is under investigation and information regarding the suspect’s appearance will be released when available.

Hundreds Served at Christmas Gift Mart

Eastvale – VantagePoint Church held their 6th Annual Christmas Gift Mart on December 1 at Eleanor Roosevelt High School.  This event helps low-income families provide holiday gifts for their children each year. 

This year’s Gift Mart allowed 420 families to take home 2,100 gifts for their children.  Members of VantagePoint Church donated over 1,800 of these gifts, each valuing from $15 to $25. 

In addition to the donations, over 300 volunteers gathered to make this event possible.  Even the local Boy Scout Troop woke up early to serve 1,100 pancake breakfasts for the families waiting in line.  The families were very grateful for the breakfast and coffee served, because some of them began lining up for the event the day before!

However, it was definitely worth the wait as families had a great time at this year’s Christmas Gift Mart.  Parents were able to pick out Christmas presents while their children made holiday crafts.  Then, volunteers wrapped the gifts and took them to each family’s cars.  Children were also excited to meet Santa, Santa’s elves, Spider-Man, Princess Belle, and Kylo Ren.  The entertainment continued with performances by the Eleanor Roosevelt High School band, choir, and drama departments.  In addition, free raffles and balloon animals were provided to the families before they went in to shop.

This event continues to touch the lives of local families each year.  “One family told us that their child just got out of the hospital and without us, they wouldn’t have been able to afford Christmas,” said Monique Whritenour, VantagePoint Operations & Outreach Director.

“Families were blessed, lives were changed, and we found a tangible way to be living proof of a loving God to those around us,” Whritenour added.

Eastvale Appoints New Mayor

Todd Rigby has lived in Eastvale for almost a decade as a California native.  He is a strong believer in giving back to his community. Professionally, he works in residential real estate as a broker and owner.  Rigby and his wife Charlene are the parents of three children.  Rigby enjoys volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, his church, and local sports organizations.  

Todd received his Associate’s Degree from Santa Ana College in Liberal Arts, and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Brigham Young University in Facilities Management with a Business Minor. He then went on to receive a Master’s Degree from Azusa Pacific University in Human Resource Organizational Development.  

“I am excited for this new role and look forward to continuing to serve the residents of our community,” said Mayor Todd Rigby.  “Thank you to my fellow Council Members for your vote of confidence. We have a great team in place on the Council and within our City staff. I look forward to a great year of accomplishing our strategic goals, and with our team effort, I have no doubt we will continue to make Eastvale a great place to live, conduct business, and visit.”

INCIDENT: GRAND THEFT INVESTIGATION AND ARREST

WHEN: 10/20/2018 (Date of theft) & 11/7/2018 (Date of arrest)

WHERE: Norco High School, 2065 Temescal Ave., Norco

DETAILS: On Monday, October 22, 2018, a Riverside County Sheriff’s school resource officer investigated a reported theft at the Norco High School campus, located at 2065 Temescal Avenue, in the City of Norco. The investigation revealed that on Saturday, October 20, 2018, about 11:13 p.m., a suspect had entered the campus and removed copper drainage lines from several air-conditioner units located on different buildings within the campus. In addition to stealing the copper, the suspect caused approximately $10,000 in damage to the units. On Wednesday, October 24, 2018, about 11:56 p.m., the suspect returned to the campus and stole additional copper lines, causing further damage to the existing air-conditioning units. Both thefts were recorded through the campus camera surveillance system, providing deputies with the suspect’s physical identifying information. On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, about 2:00 p.m., a deputy assigned to the Norco Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team, contacted Timothy Wayne Arnett, age 45, a Corona resident, during a narcotics related investigation. During this subsequent investigation, Arnett was identified as the theft suspect responsible for the Norco High School incident. Based on the information collected during the investigation, Arnett was arrested and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for the charge of grand theft. INCIDENT: ATTEMPTED MURDER

WHEN: 11/7/18

WHERE: 5800 block of Samantha Pl., Jurupa Valley

DETAILS: On Wednesday, November 07, 2018, about 3:30 PM, members of the Region 7 Regional Gang Task Force were conducting a follow up investigation to a shooting that occurred in the 5800 Block of Samantha Place in Jurupa Valley where the victim sustained two gunshot wounds, which were non-life threatening. During the course of the investigation, Task Force Officers identified 25-year-old Jurupa Valley resident, George Ayala, a documented gang member, as the person responsible for the shooting. Further investigation also revealed Ayala was involved in an unrelated armed car-jacking, which occurred on Saturday, November 03, 2018, and for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, which occurred on Wednesday, November 07, 2018. Both unrelated incidents occurred in the Jurupa Valley area. Ayala was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for the following charges:  Attempted Murder with a Firearm, Armed Carjacking, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Criminal Street Gang Membership. The Region 7 Gang Task Force is one of eight teams composing the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force, which is a collaborative effort of 25 law enforcement agencies with the goal of combating criminal street gangs throughout Riverside County. The Region 7 Gang Task Force is composed of members from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, and Riverside County Probation. INCIDENT: FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

INCIDENT UPDATE: 11/9/2018

ORIGINAL INCIDENT: 10/23/2018

WHERE: Van Buren Blvd & 56th St., Jurupa Valley

UPDATE: On Friday, November 9, 2018, George Ponce, of Jurupa Valley, was discharged from Riverside Community Hospital, where he had been treated for injuries sustained from the fatal traffic collision on October 23, 2018. George Ponce was immediately arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on four counts of 191.5 (a) P.C. (Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated).

ORIGINAL INCIDENT DETAILS: On Tuesday, October 23, 2018, about 11:45 PM, officers from the Jurupa Valley Police Department responded to a report of a major traffic collision on Van Buren Boulevard, south of 56th Street, Jurupa Valley. Upon arriving, officers located a traffic collision involving four vehicles. The preliminary investigation identified a single occupant vehicle was traveling northbound on Van Buren Boulevard and attempted to make a westbound turn onto 56th Street. The driver failed to negotiate the turn and traveled into southbound lanes of Van Buren Boulevard and collided with the vehicle occupied by four individuals.  All four individuals were pronounced deceased by emergency medical personnel on scene. Two additional vehicles traveling southbound sustained minor vehicle damage only attempting to avoid the collision. The driver who caused the collision sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in this traffic collision.  The Jurupa Valley Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team is conducting a full investigation. The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. INCIDENT: DEATH INVESTIGATION

WHEN: 11/10/18

WHERE: Robert Presley Detention Center, Riverside

DETAILS: On Saturday, November 10, 2018, about 10:29 P.M., deputies assigned to the Robert Presley Detention Center located an adult male Hispanic unresponsive within his cell in a housing area of the facility. Deputies and medical personnel in the jail, initiated life-saving measures and the male Hispanic inmate was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The Riverside Sheriff’s Department, Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Investigations Bureau responded and assumed the investigation.  The identification of the victim will not be released at this time pending notification of family.  There are no signs of foul play and due to the ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Investigator Medina of the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-955-2600.

INCIDENT: FALSE BOMB REPORT/ SCHOOL THREATS INVESTIGATION AND ARREST

WHEN: August 2018- 11/14/18

WHERE:  Norco High School, Norco

DETAILS: Starting in August 2018 and spanning several months, the Norco Sheriff’s Office, received several school violence related threats from an unidentified suspect. The threats were directed toward Norco High School, located at 2065 Temescal Avenue, in the city of Norco. In each instance, the Norco Sheriff’s Office responded to the high school and conducted thorough safety sweeps to ensure the safety of students and faculty. The threats resulted in tying up Sheriff’s resources, delaying school schedules, as well as greatly inconveniencing students, faculty, and parents. The threats were determined not to be credible. The investigation was assumed by the Norco Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team, who spent several months tracking down leads in an attempt to identify and locate the suspect. On Thursday, November 8, the Jurupa Valley Station School Resource Officer, assigned to Norco High School, developed information that led to the suspect’s identity and residence location. On Monday, November 12, deputies assigned to the School Resource Officer Unit, the Norco Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team, and the Department’s Special Investigation Bureau, served a search warrant at a residence, located in the City of Corona. During the service of the warrant, deputies were able detain the suspect, identified as a male juvenile, in addition to recovering evidence related to the crime. The investigation revealed the threats were not credible. The suspect was subsequently arrested for making false bomb reports and transported to the Norco Sheriff’s Office for processing.  The Norco Sheriff’s Office and Jurupa Valley Station School Resource Unit, in our partnership with the Corona-Norco Unified School District, is committed to the safety of all our students and school faculty. Anyone making bomb threats, threats or reports of violence against any of our schools, students, or to our community, will be thoroughly investigated and held accountable for their actions. INCIDENT: MANUFACTURED DANGEROUS WEAPONS

WHEN: 11/16/18

WHERE: 5400 Block of 34th St., Jurupa Valley

DETAILS: On Friday, November 16, 2018, about 10:35 AM, members of the Region 7 Regional Gang Task Force conducted a license plate inquiry on a pick-up truck in the 5400 Block of 34th Street, Jurupa Valley. The pick-up truck returned stolen out of the City of Riverside. During the course of their investigation, Task Force Officers identified 35-year-old Jurupa Valley resident, Andy Acuna, as the person in possession of the stolen pick-up truck. Acuna is a self-admitted Criminal Street Gang Associate. With Acuna was 27-year old Jurupa Valley resident, Kayla Webb. Webb was identified as being on Post Release Community Supervision (P.R.C.S.) Further investigation revealed Acuna was in possession of two Manufactured Dangerous Weapons. Both weapons, the “Zip-Gun” also known as a “Slam-Fired Shotgun” and the “Cane-Gun” were both loaded and fully operable. Both Acuna and Webb were arrested and booked into custody at the Robert Presley Detention Center for the following charges: Andy Acuna: Manufactured Dangerous Weapons, Possession of a Cane-Gun, Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Controlled Substance While Armed, Possession of Stolen Property. Kayla Webb: Violation of Post Release Community Supervision Terms. INCIDENT: HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION *PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUESTED*

WHEN: 11/24/18

WHERE: 13000 Block of Jasper Loop, Eastvale

DETAILS: On Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at about 8:08 pm, officers assigned to the Eastvale Police Department were dispatched to “shots being fired” in the 13000 block of Jasper Loop, in the city of Eastvale. Officers arrived and located an adult female victim, identified as Alicia Rene Lopez, 28 of Eastvale, deceased in the roadway on Jasper Loop north of Aspen Leaf Lane. One adult male was seen running from the location after the shooting, but no further information is available at this time. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Central Homicide Unit and the Jurupa Valley Station Investigators have assumed the investigation. Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance with any information regarding this incident and are encouraged to please call Investigator Vasquez of the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit at (760) 393-3529.

            The way that you have answered the above questions is probably also the way that you live your life and the way you view your life. I believe having a positive attitude is foundational in being a successful human being.  Being positive,is essential to everything good that comes with this life.  I think it all starts by being positive about who you are and about behaving in a manner that makes you proud of whom you are.  Generally, if you like who you areand are a good person, people will like you as well.  Also, if you like who you are, you will wantonly the best for yourself.  This will cause you to go to college; get a good job, find a good mate and believe that you can make your dreams comes true.

            On the other hand, being negative only prevents you from following your dreams.  Being negative also causes a lot of self doubt and really gets in the way of accomplishments.  Learn to look at the good in your life and at what you have done right so far.  Learn from your mistakes but don’t focus on them, otherwise your life will feel like one big mistake.  Look at all that you already have going right for you and learn to build on the positive and if you do, more positive will come to you!!!!!

INCIDENT: Murder Investigation

LOCATION: 15400 block of Fairfield Ranch Road, Chino Hills 

SUSPECT: Ivan Mejia, age 44 a resident of Chino Hills 

VICTIM: Martin Zendejas, age 54 a resident of Chino Hills 

SUMMARY: 
On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at approximately 1:16 am, deputies from the Chino Hills Police Department responded to an unknown problem in the parking lot of a hotel in the 15400 block of Fairfield Ranch Road in Chino Hills. The reporting party stated a female ran into the business yelling for help and had blood on her clothing. Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim, later identified as Martin Zendejas, in the parking lot suffering from injuries to his head and face. The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. 

Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives responded and assumed the investigation. Through investigation, detectives determined that the victim, Martin Zendejas, was in his vehicle at the location with a female friend when they were confronted by a male suspect, later identified as Ivan Mejia. Mejia pulled the victim out of his car and beat him causing the injuries that led to his death. Detectives were advised that the suspect, Ivan Mejia, was the boyfriend of the female that was with the victim at the time of the assault.

Detectives from the Specialized Enforcement Division were requested to assist in the investigation. Detectives located the suspect as he was leaving his residence, he was taken into custody without incident. Mejia was arrested, transported and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for PC 187 Murder.

Lost in New York City

     Recently, my wife and I had the opportunity to travel to New York City.  I had been there 30 years ago on a trip with my father and my wife had been there about 20 years ago with two girl friends. But, we had never been in New York City together.

     We had a great time seeing the sights and enjoying things together.  We stayed at a small hotel near Times Square.  It was fun to see the huge billboards illuminated at night and amazing to see the large crowds of people filling the area.

     We went to see two Broadway shows while wewere in New York. We were able to walk from our hotel to the theaters.  We saw the Carol King musical “Beautiful” and the Disney musical “Aladdin”. We really enjoyed both of them.

     We rode the “Hop on – Hop off” bus tour around the city.  This enabled us to get off at some specific locations we wanted to see.  The tour also allowed us to hear a lot about the history and highlights of Manhattan.  We went to the top of the Empire State Building and we also visited the “9-11 Memorial”.  We actually saw the name of James Hopper listed as one of those who died when the Twin Towers collapsed.  We don’t know who this was but the name caught our attention.

     There is so much more we could have done and seen, but we really enjoyed our short visit to New York City.  However, we did get lost a few times as we walked through different parts of town.  We had to stop and ask for help several times trying to navigate our way around the city.  People were very helpful.

     One night before we went to a Broadway show,we went to a nice restaurant near the theater.  My wife’s cousin lives in Long Island and she was able to drive into the city and join us for dinner and the show.  The restaurant was packed.  Thankfully, we had reservations and were seated right away.  The food was great and we were glad to spend time with her cousin.  After dinner, we walked right across the street to the theater.  

     After the show, we went back to the restaurant to pick up our “left overs” that they kept in their frig for us.  We walked her cousin back to her car and then walked through Times Square back to our hotel.

     The next day after our the tour of Manhattan and decided to try to get last minute tickets to another Broadway show.  We stood in line at the box office and were glad that there were tickets for a show that night.  However, when I went to pay for our purchase, I discovered that my Visa credit card was missing!  Where was my credit card?  It was lost in New York!

 I shared in my last article that my wife and I enjoyed a memorable trip to New York City.  We went to the top of the Empire State Building and visited the 9-11 Memorial.  We also enjoyed two Broadway shows.  But, my credit card got lost!  I had all my other cards, but the Visa card was gone.

     We were able to purchase the theater tickets with another credit card, but now the search began.  Where was my credit card?  We had made several purchases during the day but most of those were with cash.  We tried to think back to where we had been during the past 24 hours.  Should we call the credit card company and report the lost card?  What should we do?  Where could it be? It was lost in New York!

     I knew that one place I had used the credit card was at dinner last night before the show.  I called the restaurant to see if I had left it there.  They took my name and information and said they would call back if they found anything.  It was clear that they were very busy.  I decided to walk from our hotel to the restaurant to talk with someone personally.  One of the employees said this happens a lot and she went to check in the office to see if my card was there.

     I held my breath and said a short prayer hoping that had my credit card. After several minutes, the employee came back with my credit card in hand!  She asked for my ID to make sure I really was the owner and then gave the card back to me.  I must have left the card on our table when I was signing for the check and packing up our left over food as we were leaving for the show.

     We were scheduled to leave New York the next morning.  We might have never recovered the card if I had not walked back to the restaurant that night.  What a relief!  I was so thankful to find my lost card.  My wife said that she was thankful that I was the one who lost it and not her!  We celebrated by sharing a slice of New York Cheese Cake!

     There is a parable in the Bible that talks about a woman who lost a valuable coin in Luke chapter 15.  She had nine other coins, but searched her house for the one that was missing.  When she finally found it, she  invited her friends and neighbors to celebrate with her.  She rejoiced when she found it.  The point of this parable is that there is rejoicing in heaven when one “lost” person is “found” and comes to faith in Jesus.  

     I know that all of us have lost something -the car keys, a wallet, a  purse or even a credit card.  It sure feels good when you finally find it, especially in New York City!

Carbon Canyon traffic safety operation results in 61 vehicle code violations

INCIDENT: Roadway Safety Operation 

LOCATION: Carbon Canyon Road, between Chino Hills Parkway and Oakway Lane 

SUMMARY: 
The Chino Hills Police Department’s Traffic Division, along with the California Highway Patrol conducted a roadway safety patrol operation on Carbon Canyon Road (State Route 142) between the intersections with Chino Hills Parkway and Oakway Lane. The purpose of the operation was to enhance roadway safety through education and enforcement action for violations of the California Vehicle Code, and to prevent traffic collisions. 

During the operation, traffic citations were issued for 61 vehicle code violations including distracted driving, vehicle equipment violations, school bus stop signs violations, speeding, unsafe lane changes, unlicensed motorcycle operator and registration violations. The California Highway Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Unit conducted 18 commercial vehicle inspections. Unsafe commercial vehicles were placed out of service and identified mechanical violations were documented as a result of the inspections. 

The Chino Hills Police Department’s Traffic Division is committed to ensuring traffic safety through education and enforcement on our city’s and county’s roadways.

Suspect in Rockstars Of Tomorrow burglary, post stolen goods for sale online and gets arrested.

INCIDENT: Commercial Burglary – Arrest 

LOCATION: 4200 Chino Hills Parkway 

VICTIM: Rockstars of Tomorrow Music School 

SUSPECT: Joe Adrian Perez, 43 years old, resident of San Dimas 

SUMMARY: 
On December 7, 2018 at 2:00 a.m., deputies responded to a burglary at “Rockstars of Tomorrow” music school. Surveillance footage showed two unknown suspects shatter the glass front door of the business using an unknown object. The suspects entered the business and took several guitars. 

On December 11, 2018, detectives received a tip that the guitars were posted for sale online by Joe Adrian Perez. Detectives served a search warrant Perez’s residence in San Dimas. Two matching guitars were located, along with suspected methamphetamine. 

Detectives arrested Perez and booked him into the West Valley Detention Center for burglary and possession of stolen property. Perez is currently being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
