An Invitation for Wellness in 2020

              I can’t think of a better way to help you meet your goals then by attending an event that will teach you so many wonderful ways to embrace wellness into 2020!  I personally will be running two of the five workshops offered and would love for all of you readers to come out to this amazing opportunity to enhance your wellbeing. Pastor’s Corner: Navigation

I grew up during the Space Race of the 1960’s as America and Russia worked furiously to be the first to land a man on the moon. It was an amazing time in our nation’s history. Apollo 8 was the first time men orbited the moon and Apollo 11 was the first landing of men on the moon in 1969. America won the Space Race.

It is hard to believe that was fifty years ago. In 2019 I enjoyed reading several books and watching TV documentaries and movies about both of those remarkable moments. One of the things that caught my attention was how essential reliable navigation was to the success of those missions. I learned that the American astronauts were required to memorize the locations of a number of stars and constellations. Even though they had computers and sophisticated navigational equipment the astronauts knew they could rely on the locations of constellations and stars to chart their course to and from the moon.

I have read that Polynesians used the stars to navigate their way across the vast Pacific Ocean. They rested in the day and paddled and sailed by night aiming toward certain stars and constellations. The European explorers like Henry the Navigator from Portugal and other nations used the location of the sun and the stars to identify their location and chart their courses, too. They knew the locations of the stars were predictable and reliable in ancient times and they still are today. Now we have GPS (Global Positioning Satellites) to chart the paths for ships, aircraft and our own automobiles. These provide a reliable source for navigation and travel.

The Bible says that God created the universe. He placed the sun, moon, earth and stars in their places. The planets follow predictable orbits and the location of the stars are consistent and trustworthy. The Bible says, “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens – who created all of these? God calls each of the stars by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength not one of them is missing” (Isaiah 40:26).

Let me encourage you to reflect on the beauty and order of the stars in the sky. When you see a beautiful full moon rising up in the eastern horizon I hope it reminds you of the regularity of the seasons and the reliability of each day and month. Give thanks to God who created the world we enjoy. You will be glad you did and He will too!

Centro Basco: French Cuisine in Chino

Pastor’s Corner: Meet the President

Recently my wife and I were traveling to Texas to meet some friends in San Antonio. Our flight on Southwest airlines took us to Dallas first and then we waited at Love Field for our short flight to San Antonio. After we found our departure gate we noticed a familiar looking person in the waiting area. I had just seen his picture in the Southwest Airline magazine on our last flight. It was Gary Kelly – the president of Southwest. He was going on the same flight we were to San Antonio.

I wasn’t sure it was him until I introduced myself and my wife and asked if he really was Gary Kelly. He greeted us warmly and assured us he was the guy in the magazine and he was glad to take a picture with us. I told him we loved Southwest Airlines and we had been flying Southwest since the time it began in Dallas when I was a graduate student in Dallas in 1971. I enjoyed our brief conversation and told him how much we appreciated the way Southwest has personally helped us on several occasions. I told him we had recently flown on one of the new Southwest flights to Hawaii a few months ago.

He was very gracious and gave the credit to the airlines’ helpful employees. As we prepared to board our flight I noticed Gary and his wife were in line with all the other passengers. He did not request or expect special or preferential treatment. I suspect most of the passengers on our flight had no idea that the president of the airline was flying with us. I have enjoyed reading many of Gary’s articles in the Southwest magazine. Many times he has stressed Southwest’s philosophy of customer service. I am confident he models being a servant leader and putting the needs of others ahead of his own. There is a verse in the Bible that says, “Jesus did not come to be served but to serve others and give his life for us” (Mark 10:45). Let me encourage you to watch for opportunities to serve people around you – in your company, your community and on your school campus. They will be glad you did and you will too.

Autism Mom: Ice Cream

“Don’t let your ice cream melt by looking at someone else’s sprinkles” Wow, isn’t that the truth?


 When I heard this the other day,  it was so accurate. I am not sure there’s even a better way to describe not to be envious or jealous of someone’s blessings (sprinkles).
 I used to let my ice cream melt by counting other people’s “sprinkles.”


Having two boys on the spectrum,  it isn’t easy and adjusting to the autism world was something that wasn’t in my plans for my life.  I started to get envious of people conversing with their children. I use to wish that my child could talk with me and hold a conversation.


 I would see people playing with their children and think if I could only do that with my child.  I would see a group of kids playing, and get teary-eyed and think I wish my child could play with other kids like that.


 I spent a lot of time counting the sprinkles of others, but in the meantime, my ice cream was melting.


 One day I decided to look at the heavens above and prayed about it all. The answer came back to count my sprinkles and quit letting my ice cream melt!


My boys are loving, kind, happy, and they may not be able to do all the things out there, but it’s ok. They are uniquely made and have amazing qualities.
My sprinkles, my blessing from above, is precisely that, Blessings!  In no way would I  ever let my ice cream melt again by counting someone else’s sprinkles because I’ve got plenty of sprinkles on my ice cream.

Bicyclist Killed In Accident

Chino – A bicyclist died after colliding with a vehicle last saturday evening in Chino, police said.

The 37-year-old man, who lives in pomona, was riding his bike along Philadelphia Street near Bridger Avenue when a vehicle struck the man, said Chino police Lt. Nick Marotta. It happened in the 5100 block of Philadelphia.

A witness had phoned police about the crash about 7:24 p.m., Marotta said. Officers arrived to find the 37-year-old lying on the pavement, unresponsive.

Paramedics transported him to Chino Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Traffic investigators have yet to determine the cause of the crash. It was not clear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.

Four Dies In Plane Crash Near Corona Airport

Eastvale -An Eastvale woman died due to a hit and run accident but the perpetrator was caught the following day, according to Corona Police.

Brenda Richardson, 48, of Eastvale, was riding her motorcycle on River Road and Kalus Avenue around 4 pm last week when the suspect vehicle, a 2006 Lexus ES330, allegedly turned left in front of Richardson, striking the zlexus on the right side of that vehicle, severely injuring Richardson. She succumbed to her injuries the following day, February 6. She was the mother of eight.

On February 7, 2020, at about 3:56 p.m., the suspect vehicle, a 2006 Lexus ES330, involved in her death, was located in the 900 block of Rebecca Way in Corona. While officers were investigating the car, they found the male driver, 85-year-old Tashiro Isa of Corona. Officers arrested Isa for felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Officer Gardner at (951) 817-5784.

Police arrested an 85-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run collision after the victim’s husband, Rod Richardson, found the vehicle believed to have been involved and notified authorities.

Tashiro Isa of Corona was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter, according to the Corona Police Department.

According to online reports, Richardson said he found the car on Friday afternoon in the 900 block of Rebecca Way in Corona and notified police.

Investigators confirmed the recovery of the involved vehicle, a 2006 Lexus ES330, as well as the arrest of its owner, on Friday night.

“While officers were investigating the car, they found the driver, 85-year-old Tashiro Isa of Corona,” police said in an online tweet.

Information regarding Tashiro’s bail amount and initial court appearance was not available.

Brenda Richardson was riding a motorcycle when the Lexus turned left in front of her, into her path of travel, Corona police said at the time. The car that struck her sped away.

The victim leaves behind eight children, as well as a son-in-law and future daughter-in-law who she counted among her own, loved ones said on a memorial page set up in tribute to the victim. The web page had garnered more than $3,500 in donations to support the family as of Friday evening.

Brenda Richardson was known to friends as “Pinky,” “not only because she loves the color Pink, but because she used her pinky as to wave at passing motorcycles,” according to the memorial page.

“She was a very proud Navy veteran, who took pride in serving our country just as many of her family members did and one of her daughters currently does,” the statement continued. “She was a beautiful soul who made her life mission to make sure everyone she knew were cared for and knew they were loved.”

Officers arrested Isa on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Officer Gardner at 951-817-5784.

Four Dies In Plane Crash Near Corona Airport

          Corona – Four people died when a plane crashed after taking off from the Corona Municipal Airport wednesday, Jan. 22. The plane reportedly caught fire after it crashed.

          Around 12:10 p.m., the single-engine aircraft carrying four people was departing the airport, which is located at 1900 Aviation Drive, when it crashed at the end of the runway, according to John DeYoe of the Corona Fire Department.

          The plane had a full 80-gallon fuel tank, which spilled and ignited a fire that spread to nearby brush, DeYoe said.

          First responders arrived at the scene and found the small aircraft engulfed in flames on the airport’s east side, according to the Corona Police Department.

          The blaze burned about a quarter-acre before firefighters knocked it down.

After extinguishing the flames, authorities discovered the plane’s four occupants dead; all were found to have “extensive” burn injuries, DeYoe said.

          He did not have any information about the victims, including genders or ages. The coroner’s office has responded to the scene.

          Local pilots told KTLA the plane had stopped at the airport to refuel.

It was not immediately known what caused the crash, but one witness told KTLA that issues were evident during takeoff.

          A witness, Dorothe Voll saw the aircraft hit a fence and flip over before smoke started pouring out. People immediately ran over with the extinguishers to try and put out the flames before firefighters arrived minutes later.

          The charred wreckage was visible in a brushy area just off an airport runway, Sky5 aerial video showed. Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, confirmed the plane was destroyed in the crash.

          He said the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash, online reports said.

Eastvale Girl Graces New Girl Scout Packaging

            Sunday marks the official start of Girl Scout cookie sale season, and a familiar face will be featured on the newly redesigned packaging.

            Girl Scout Anneliese Brasher, of Eastvale, will be featured on the newly redesigned 2020 packaging for the Caramel Chocolate Chip variety, which debuted as a new gluten-free flavor last year.

          Now a fifth grader, Brasher, 10, has been involved with the Girl Scouts since kindergarten.  She says that her six years of Girl Scouts has helped her to become more confident, outgoing, and fearless. “My Girl Scout sisters always encourage me if I am scared to try something new,” she said.  

          Her chance to appear on the group’s famous cookie boxes came in 2018, when the Girl Scouts ran a contest for the honor. Brasher submitted an application with the simple goal of earning a limited edition patch, answering essay questions about her cookie-selling techniques, goals, and accomplishments within the organization.

            Her primary technique, Brasher said, was to anticipate all the ways a customer could say no, and have a response ready.  Short on cash? “I take credit cards, debit cards, and Venmo,” she said.  Still sticking to your New Year’s diet resolutions?  “It you can’t eat them, treat them!” Brasher said, “we accept donations,” noting that she personally delivers her cookie donations to the local fire department.

In May of 2018, Brasher was notified that she had won the cookie-box contest, selected as the sole Brownie Girl Scout “Cookie Pro” in an organization of 2.5 million – she was sworn to secrecy until the nation-wide debut of the new packaging this year. 

            Her victory included a trip to New York City, where she was able to meet with female business leaders, designers of the new cookie packaging, and Girl Scout CEO, Sylvia Acevedo.

            During the trip, Brasher also participated in a photo shoot for the contest, the results of which are now featured on this season’s boxes of Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies as a part of the packaging redesign that was eight years in the making.

            The refreshed Girl Scout cookie packaging continues to emphasize what the cookie program is all about.  The updated images feature actual Girl Scouts like Brasher, and every package showcases girls participating in a diverse range of leadership experiences from exploring science, designing robots, to adventure-packed camping and canoeing.

            The Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies and other varieties of Girl Scout cookies are on sale beginning January 26, and as always, will only be available for a limited time with sales ending in mid-March. 

            Brasher hopes that her appearance on the box will inspire more girls to join the scouting organization.  “Girl Scouts has given me the opportunity to do things that I never thought I’d get to do – like archery, surfing, indoor skydiving, and or being on a cookie package!  I hope other girls see that they can do anything they dream of too!”

Inland Empire – In January, several crime incidents took place in Eastvale and Norco. The incidents are listed below, courtesy of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.  

INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision

WHEN: January 26, 2020

WHERE: River Road cross of Baron Road, Eastvale

On Sunday, January 26, 2020, about 7:34 AM, deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station responded to a report of a single vehicle traffic collision at River Road cross of Baron Road, in the city of Eastvale.

Upon arrival, a small compact vehicle was located in the embankment area of the Santa Ana River. The vehicle was occupied by a single male adult.  The male occupant sustained major injury and was transported to a local hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling southbound on River Road when the vehicle struck a curb and launched into the embankment at Baron Road. The Jurupa Valley Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team is conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the collision.

INCIDENT: Robbery

WHEN: January 23, 2020

WHERE: 13000 block of Limonite Ave, Eastvale

On Thursday, January 23, 2020, at 11:15 AM, deputies assigned to the city of Eastvale responded to a strong-arm robbery at the CareMore Pharmacy, located in the 13000 block of Limonite Ave in the city of Eastvale.  Initial reports indicated an unknown white male adult entered the business and walked toward the cashier counter demanding money from the register, while holding one hand behind his back. The suspect fled with money taken form the cash register concealing it in a black bag.

Deputies arrived and established a perimeter around the area and searched for the suspect, but they did not locate him.  During the ongoing investigation, in collaboration with the Riverside Police Department, information was obtained that identified the suspect as 40-year old Haissam Massalkhy from Pomona who is currently on Parole. 

On Thursday, January 30, 2020, Deputies from the Eastvale Special Enforcement Team conducted a follow up investigation. They arrested Massalkhy, retrieved items of clothing that were worn during the incident, and charged him with robbery.

INCIDENT: Residential Burglary Arrest

WHEN: January 15, 2020

WHERE: 4900 Block of Viceroy Avenue, Norco

On January 15, 2029 at 5:15 P.M., Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Norco Station, responded to the location for an unknown subject inside of the victim’s garage. The subject fled the residence on foot, prior to deputy arrival. The family at the location provided vital identifying information and location of the suspect. Deputies contacted the subject near the Nature Center. He was reluctant to provide his name to the arresting deputies. Evidence of a burglary was located on the subject and he was consequently arrested. He was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for Burglary and Impeding an Investigation.

The subject was initially booked as a John Doe, but through the booking process was identified as Nathan Ahern, 40 years-old WMA and transient from the City of Riverside. Ahern was also wanted for two Felony Warrants out of Los Angeles County for Arson. He is being held without Bail.

INCIDENT: Robbery Arrest

WHEN: January 11, 2020

WHERE: 3000 Block of Shadow Canyon Circle, Norco

On January 11, 2020, at 11:15 P.M., Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Norco Station, responded to the 3000 block of Shadow Canyon Circle, Norco, in reference to a burglary in progress. The victim awoke to noises inside his residence and located two unknown Hispanic Male Adults inside his spare bedroom attempting to take property. The victim confronted the suspects and an altercation occurred causing the victim to sustain minor injuries.

The suspects managed to get away from the victim and escape through a bedroom window, leaving behind several items. Th Riverside County Sheriff’s Forensics Team responded to process the scene that evening.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Norco Station’s Special Enforcement Team continued with the investigation. On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, crucial identifying information was obtained from Forensics which identified, Alberto Jose Cruz Perez, a 19-year-old male, resident of Inglewood, as one of the suspects. After an extensive search for Cruz, he was located and detained in the City of Riverside on February 5, 2020.

Alberto Jose Cruz was consequently placed under arrest for Robbery and booked into the Robert Presely Detention Center where he is being held on $35,000 bail.

INCIDENT: Discharging a Firearm in a Grossly Negligent Manner

WHEN: January 11, 2020

WHERE: 6200 Block of Bay Street, Eastvale

On January 11, 2020, at 11:32 pm, deputies assigned to the city of Eastvale responded to the 6200 block of Bay Street regarding a man firing a gun outside.  Deputies located the male suspect, identified as 31-year-old Eastvale resident, Jorge M. Lopez, on the street and arrested him. No injuries were reported by residents in the area.  Deputies served a search warrant at Lopez’s residence and located four firearms.  Lopez was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center for discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.

Here We Grow Again

Eastvale – Eastvale businesses are opening and construction is in process for several new establishments. Eastvale roads are even receiving a makeover.

Paving activities occurred on River Road west of Archibald Avenue on Feb. 12th. United Pavings performed these activities from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. For additional information about this project, contact the City of Eastvale Public Works Department at 951.703.4470.

On Sunday, Feb. 9, Griddle Mongolian Grill opened in The Eastvale Marketplace located at 13394 Limonite Ave., Suite B-100. They are open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Griddle Mongolian Grill offers a wide variety of delicious veggies and other fresh ingredients to pair with noodles, rice and their secret sauce.

As of Jan. 27, the traffic signal at Scholar Way and 68th Street is now active. This signal includes a flashing yellow arrow to assist with left turns.

The City of Eastvale reminds the community of these rules when approaching the new signal:

•Solid Red: Drivers may not turn.

•Solid Yellow: Drivers are cautioned, the light is about to change, drivers must prepare to stop or complete the left turn.

•Flashing Yellow: Drivers may turn but must yield to pedestrians and oncoming traffic.

•Solid Green: Drivers may turn.

On Jan. 24, the City of Eastvale announced that another gym will be joining the Eastvale health community soon. The City also has a location that provides assistance for mental health. On Jan. 23, the EastBrew Cafe held their Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The new restaurant is located in the Eastvale Gateway Center at 12303 Limonite Ave., Suite 700. EastBrew Cafe features a variety of coffee and latte options, as well as an assortment of tea and food options. They are open on Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. with kitchen hours from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. & on Friday – Sunday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. with kitchen hours 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. They also host weekend brunch.

On Jan. 16, the Little Eastern Café also held their Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Little Eastern Cafe is located at the Station in Eastvale at 4910 Hamner Ave. They serve a delicious array of Asian, Chinese, and modern Chinese food.

Here We Grow Again

Eastvale – Eastvale continues to grow with ground breakings and road changes.  Below is a recap of how Eastvale has grown in the last month.   

This week, a reminder was announced to be aware of paving activities that are expected to take place westbound on Schleisman Road between Harrison Avenue and Archibald Avenue. The construction will be conducted from Jan. 20 to Feb. 3, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Intermittent lane closures will take place westbound Schleisman Road with at least one lane open at all times. Noise levels will also be monitored to ensure work performed is within the necessary compliance levels.

Traffic delays are to be expected so please plan accordingly by taking alternate routes and allowing more time for travel. An advisory was also issued to obey all posted construction signs, drive safely and do not enter the construction work zone.

However, the City of Eastvale stated that construction schedules are subject to change for various reasons including but not limited to: weather conditions, unforeseen emergencies and other acts of nature.

Construction occurred several times in Eastvale during the month of January.  On Wednesday, January 8, the traffic signal at Citrus St. and Granja Vista Del Rio Dr. was modified.  These revisions took place in an effort to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians. The City of Eastvale announced that the revisions included the following:

  • A dedicated right turn lane with a green arrow when driving out of the Eleanor Roosevelt High School (ERHS) parking lot.
  • A longer protected green light, allowing drivers to make secured left turns into ERHS from Citrus St.
  • Eliminated the ability to enter the high school through the Estancia neighborhood on Granja Vista Del Rio Dr.
  • The crosswalk across Citrus St. on the west side of the intersection has been removed. Pedestrians can only access the crosswalk from the east side of the intersection on Granja Vista Del Rio Dr.

The City of Eastvale encourages commuters to drive with caution and be patient as residents become familiar with the new signal.

    Sprouts Farmers Market has recently broken ground in Eastvale.

In addition, on Dec. 12, the City of Eastvale announced that Sprouts Farmers Market has recently broken ground in Eastvale. This grocery store sells fresh, natural and organic products at affordable prices. Sprouts will be located at the future Merge Retail Center, on the northeast corner of Archibald Avenue and Limonite Avenue and is expected to open in the summer of 2020.  Also joining the Merge Retail Center are Dog Haus Biergarten, Pure Barre, and more!

Lastly, on Dec. 12, a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony took place at Staples, in celebration of their new Spotlight Space. This new space was created for workshops, seminars, meetings, and anything that promotes collaboration and learning.  Staples is located in The Eastvale Gateway Center located at 12495 Limonite Ave, Eastvale, CA 91752.

INCIDENT: Mail Theft / Arrest

WHEN: December 27, 2019  

WHERE: 5th Street and Hillside Avenue, Norco

On December 27, at about11:27 AM deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Norco Station, responded to the area of 5th Street near the intersection with Hillside Avenue to investigate a report of a man and woman stealing mail from residential mailboxes in the area. Deputies were able to contact the suspects and identify them as Marlene Cambara, a 39-year-old, Hispanic female, who is resident in the Corona area; and, Tony Basenback Jr., a 24-year-old, White male adult, who is resident in the Riverside area. Witnesses identified both suspects as the persons spotted stealing mail in the area.

Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention center for charges related to the theft. Both suspects are being held on $10,000 bail.  Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact Deputy S. Lycopolus at 951-270-5673.

INCIDENT: DUI / Driver’s License Checkpoint

WHEN: December 21, 2019  

WHERE: Undisclosed location within the city of Eastvale

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Jurupa Valley Station conducted a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on December 21. The checkpoint was on Limonite Avenue and Cloverdale Marketplace, in Eastvale between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. During the checkpoint operation a total of 866 vehicles were screened resulting in the following:

  • 1 – Driver was arrested for driving under the influence
  • 14 – Drivers were cited / arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended / revoked license.
  • 6 vehicles towed

DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests. Last year deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station (Eastvale) investigated 9 DUI collisions which claimed 1 life and resulted in another 6 injuries.

Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500. This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses not to mention possible jail time.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision

WHEN: December 16, 2019  

WHERE: Archibald Avenue cross of Baron Road, Eastvale 

On December 16, at about 5:23 AM, deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Eastvale.

Upon arrival, deputies located a male adult with major injuries. The male was transported to a local hospital for his injuries.  The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and stayed on scene for the investigation. The Jurupa Valley Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team is conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the collision.

INCIDENT: Forgery / Arrest

WHEN: December 9, 2019

WHERE: 2400 block of River Road, Norco

On December 9, 2019, about 10:12 PM, deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department Norco station responded to a business located in the City of Norco to investigate a report of a forgery. The investigation revealed video showing suspect, 30-year-old Giana Bruneio, resident of the city of Pomona, enter the business. Bruneio attempted to use a fraudulently altered Coinstar receipt to receive more cash than the receipt was worth. The video also revealed she arrived in a vehicle with an accomplice.

Members of the Norco Special Enforcement Team responded to Bruneio’s home of record in the city of Pomona where they ultimately identified her accomplice as suspect, 26-year-old Wesley Wooten, a resident of Pomona. Evidence of the crime[s] was collected at the suspects residence. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for charges related to the fraud. Bruneio’s bail was set at $20, 000. Wooten’s bail was set at $50,000.

INCIDENT: Assault Causing Great Bodily Injury/Elder Abuse-Arrest

WHEN: December 6, 2019

WHERE: 1700 Block of Hillside Avenue, Norco

On Friday, December 06, 2019, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Norco Station responded to a residence in the 1700 block Hillside, Norco, to investigate a reported assault. The victim reported to have been chocked and battered by a former tenant and acquaintance, who had illegally entered the victim’s residence for the purpose of stealing an automobile belonging to the victim.

The victim positively identified his former tenant, a white male and 27-years of age resident of Norco, Paul Stephen Otto, as the person responsible for the crime of assault causing great bodily injury. Paul Otto fled the scene in an older silver Volvo sedan which was registered to himself. The 83-year-old victim was treated for injuries at the scene. Paul Otto was later seen in front of the Norco Station where an attempt was made to detain him. Paul Otto fled south on Hamner Avenue, at a high rate of speed in the Volvo. Paul Otto evaded deputies and caused a traffic collision at the intersection of Hamner Avenue and First Street. Neither party involved in the traffic collision sustained any injuries.

As a result of the collision, Paul Otto damaged his vehicle deeming it inoperable. The vehicle came to a stop on Hamner Avenue south of First Street. Paul Otto was taken into custody without incident and transported to a nearby hospital for medical clearance prior to booking.

He was medically cleared and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for the above listed charges and is being held on $300,000 bail.

Eastvale Coach Arrested

for having multiple sexual relationships with students
as young as 14.

Eastvale – An Eastvale coach was arrested for multiple sexual counts involving current and former students last week.

Joe Robles Jr, an athletic coach at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, was arrested at his home last Saturday in Ontario for a number of crimes which include “sexual assaults against multiple former students,” confirmed Riverside County Sheriff’s Department (RS0) Sgt. Ernie Esquibel. Robles was booked on suspicion of unlawful sex with a minor and rape of a minor under 14 years of age. His bail was set at $1 million.

On September 26, officials from the Corona-Norco Unified School District informed the RSO that a school employee possibly having inappropriate relationships with former students, Sgt. Esquibel confirmed.

An investigation confirmed Robles, 36, had multiple sexual relationships with students who had previously attended the school and was having contact with several current and former students via social media connections, Sgt. Esquibel said.

New Additions To Eastvale

Eastvale – On October 1, the City of Eastvale turned 9-years-old!  Over the last nine years, the city has grown with new businesses opening almost every month. Here is what’s expected to open soon.

The Little Eastern Cafe will be opening this fall at The Station.

On October 2, the City of Eastvale announced that the Little Eastern Café will be opening this fall at The Station.  Little Eastern Café will feature a delicious menu of Taiwanese and Japanese fusion.  The Station is located at Hamner Avenue and Cantu-Galleano Ranch Road in the Goodman Commerce Center.

In addition, Fire Station 31 had an Open House on October 12 in honor of National Fire Prevention Week.  The event took place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Fire Station 31, located at 14491 Chandler Street in Eastvale.  The open house included a static display, fire station tours and demonstrations for all ages.

Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9 in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871, and caused devastating damage, according to the City of Eastvale. 

“In a fire, mere seconds can mean the difference between a safe escape and a tragedy,” states the City. “Fire safety education isn’t just for school children. Teenagers, adults, and the elderly are also at risk in fires, making it important for every member of the community to take some time every October during Fire Prevention Week to make sure they understand how to stay safe in case of a fire.”

Another big project we have all been waiting to be completed is the I-15 Limonite Avenue Interchange Project. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place on November 14, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the Park & Ride located at 12105 Limonite Avenue, Jurupa Valley.

The City of Eastvale and City of Jurupa Valley will be celebrating the new Limonite Avenue bridge that connects our two cities.  The new design will feature a new 8-lane overcrossing; 3-through lanes in each direction plus 2 turn lanes; widening of the off-ramps from two to four lanes; the addition of two new loop on-ramps; and widening of Limonite to four lanes in each direction between Hamner Avenue and Wineville Avenue.
